| What do you sacrifice if you buy the 511 as apposed to the higher end models ? thanks |

I'll take a stab.
The 511 uses the "N" batteries, which are not as common as AA. The 511 does have a smaller "footprint" (overall length) as a result. The 512 is a 511 that uses AA batteries. With the 511 and the 512, you don't get the nightvision compatability. The buttons are on the front rather than the side, which makes use with a magnifier tough. If you want to 1/3 co-witness, rather than absolute, there are some models with built in 7mm riser in order to faciliate this. With models like the 511 and 512, you would need another mount to raise the sight up. For me, I'm not using night vision or magnification. I like to absolute co-witness. I want to use AA batteries. I chose the 512. |

OK, seriously I can only speak about my knowledge, functions and other in regards to the model 551 rev F and model 552 rev F. Obviously the higher end EOTechs would have improved capabilities from previous generations of the L3 EOTech Holographic sights. Best thing that I would suggest to you is search their website, this web site and maybe give them a call to find out your specific needs and or answers. I really like my two EOTechs very much as I have shot a few thousand rounds with each sight. I have both sights mounted to LaRue LT-110? QD mounts. I also have the ultra - cool LaRue Tactical windage and elevation decals also. And I also have the GG&G flip/protective covers installed. If it is a gun that you may need a good reliable sight to possibly defend yourself or your family well then sacrifice is something that has to be carefully considered obviously. Either which way you go with your choice, I wish you the best of luck and I would learn and practice with whatever sight until you are so squared away, that if you need to use it, then the only sacrifice would be on the receiving end of the 511, or whatever sight. |

Thanks folks...I do own the 511. A buddy of mine sold his rifle when I was about to get mine so I asked him not to sell the eotech.. I got a great deal on it ( $250.00) and there isn't a scratch on it... I put the GG&G cover with the "front toward enemy" font on it....I love it !! I guess the only real issue that I have with it, besides the odd batteries, is that I had it out in about 20* weather and it conked out on me...Let it warm back up inside the house and then it was fine again. So that is really what my question stemmed from. I just wondered if the other models might be a little more reliable...other than that one problem it has worked great and I wouldn't trade it for anything......thanks again |
