Any reason why?

I like the fact that at 100m you have a pointed tip of the chevron as a aiming point, not a curved arch.  At 200 you use the inside bottom of the chevron, also pointed and sharp, not curved.

since everyone else is saying chevron I'm gonna say horse shoe.  I got one and love it.

Can't go wrong with either I suppose.

This is what I was led to believe as well, but after hitting the range with a brand new TA31H, it appears the center of the 2MOA dot is the 100 meter point of aim.

(with full illumination, the dot blooms and appears closer to 3MOA)

After zeroing at 50 yards using the dot (still erroneously assuming the dot was intended to work with a 50 yd/200m BZO), I lined up the BDC hashmarks on the bottom edge of a sheet of cardboard and fired a few shots to judge how the BDC was calibrated.

Turns out the inches of offset correspond to the MOA values for the TA31RCO-M4 reticle.

TA31RCO-M4
FROM TIP OF CHEVRON TO:
BOTTOM OF THE CHEVRON 5 MOA
1ST HASHMARK (400M) 9 MOA
2ND HASHMARK 14 MOA
3RD HASHMARK (600M) 20 MOA
4TH HASHMARK 28 MOA
5TH HASHMARK 38 MOA

Since all MOA values are indexed off the 100m point of aim, I was forced to conclude the dot, and not the top of the curved arch, was it.

Comparing the observed impacts shows a near perfect match.
observed MOA values:
tip illum. post (300m) 5 MOA
1ST hashmark (400M) 8.5 MOA
2ND hashmark (500M) 12 MOA
3RD hashmark (600M) 20 MOA
4TH hashmark (700M) 27 MOA
5TH hashmark (800M) 38 MOA

If you're shooting M193 through a carbine, the BDC matched the actual trajectory near perfectly out to 500m. After that, a 55 grain bullet is 2MOA low at 600m, 3MOA low at 700m, and 4MOA low at 800m.

That is good info...but I am still a newbie and learning how all this stuff works an that is beyond me right now.

For the horseshoe I would assume you sighted off of the top of the dot at 100...from the post above it seems like you use  the center of the dot.

My uninformed opinion is the  Chevron is more precise but the Horseshoe would be faster inside 100 yards?

It will be going on a 16 inch barrel if that makes any difference.

I have no experience with the circle, all my training has been with the chevron in the ACO and RCO.   The chevron just works for combat applications, subtends an average human's chest at 300ms and gives multiple aim points from 100-800 m's.

Has anyone gone with the green reticle? I have the option on my crossbow of going with red or green and I find myself always going with the green. With a rifle I do get some bloom on my aimpoint and even a bit(not bad) with my ta338r. Oh by the way on a stock mount on a le6920 the fsp is not an issue at all. I'm thinking of trying their green reticle and with the fiber optics was wondering if blooming was an issue. Chevrons are great for Deer also.

Correct, I was using the center of the dot out of habit (darn Aimpoints ). Still getting acquainted with it - will probably make a few changes before breathing a sigh of relief. Forgot to add that I was using a 14.5" barrel above, so muzzle velocity and trajectory will be a bit lower than anything out of a 16" barrel.

The Trijicon manual says to use the tip which sort of makes sense because the ballistics calculator says the bottom edge of the dot would also approximate a 200m impact (see below).

A 16 inch barrel firing M193 at 3075fps will be approximately a half MOA high from 200m - 500m and dead on at 600m. 1MOA low at 700 and 2MOA low at 800m.
