| The differences between M4 and HK style is it really just cosmetic or is there more to it? I will be running an EOTech red dot system and eventually a 3x Magnifier too. Thanks for any info. |

HK uses a drum and hooded front sight. It is designed so that you place the circular hood on the front sight into the gap in the rear sight when looking through...its easiest for humans to put a circle in a circle...but they typically cost more and, IMO, arent as secure in flip-down format... |

In my opinion between the M4 and HK style is just users preference.
I got used to the M4 style sights early on when I first got my AR-15, also using USGI M1 Garands and carbines so later on when I got a HK 94 with the HK sights I was not used to it. You'll have to try out the HK sight for yourself and see if you might like it better than the M4 style sight. |
| i too have struggled with this as several of my rifles came with troy BUIS with the HK style 3/4 circle front sights. I found myself concentrating too much on getting concentric circles (ie, frt in the rear) that i was not focusing on the frt post - which is what 40 yrs of training taught. after seeing the troy M4 frt sight i am changing to this on my rifles. its what i am used to, comfortable with, trained with etc and i dont need to learn something new if i dont have to. Just my preference. I also notice that in not perfect light (indoor ranges especially) the HK sight 3/4 circle cuts down on light to the frt sight making th epost more difficult to see against the target background - maybe its perception for me, but the open diverging ears of the M4 sight take me right to the frt post with lots of light etc. maybe i'm just too set in my ways, but this is what i;ve concluded. but it is personal preference |
