While waiting on my kit to build my 16" varmint gun, I started looking at sights and scopes. I think that I have settled on the eotech 512, but I would like to know if there is anything else required to get it going. Do I need a mount or does it mount right to the rail on my upper?
I do not have buis in mind yet, but this is not going to be a shtf gun so I will add them later. I have a couple of gift cards for Cabellas that will cover about half the cost of the 512, but is there a better place to buy? Sorry for the odd questions, but you guys have so much info it is hard not to tap into it! Thank you, Mike noob AR guy! |

The 512 is a nice unit. I have one on a carbine as well. Since I will never mount NVG to it, I didn't see the need for getting the 552.
The 512 with Lithium batteries will run over 600 hours. Its built like a tank and has seen some rough usage on my AR. GO FOR IT!!! |

how easy is it to zero the EOTech once you mount it on your rifle? As easy as any other scope. 1/2MOA adjustments on side of EOTech. As to the original question it can mount right on ur flat top or be used in conjunction with a mount (Larue mounts are nice). The advantage of a mount being that it gets you up above the FSB and allows you to take the optic off with the QD and reattach it with it still being perfectly zeroed. Directly on flat top = perfect co-witness with BUIS On mount = partial co-witness BUT, since it is a QD mount it takes less than a second to take the optics off. EDIT: Just looked at cabelas and that price is a bit high, but you do have gift cards to use up and they are running a $5 shipping special. I got my Eo 552 from SKD Tac for $404 shipped a few weeks ago. |
