I think that scope has a 1" tube, so that answers one question––ring diameter.
Assuming, and that's a big assumption 'cause I don't know much about an AR-10, that the rifle geometry is the same as an AR-15, the standard scope height is 1.40 inches above the rail. That puts the centerline of the optic at the same height as the iron sights on an AR-15, and is the most comfortable for the majority of shooters. The common mistake is to mount the scope too low, so I'd shoot for 1.40 inches as the minimum. You can get to that height with either individual rings or a cantalevered mount which allows mounting the scope further forward, than is possible with individual rings. Mounting the scope further forward allows you to optimize eye relief. Individual rings work OK for some scopes, but is kinda marginal for most––I found out the hard way, but lived with it until finally giving in and getting a cantalevered mount. 1.40 inches high for the scope is plenty high for the 40 mm objective lens to clear the handguards. Make sure you see the mount height to the centerline somewhere in the technical description of the mount. Don't count on the name, i.e. Ultra high, super high, etc. Also, some mount/ring makers define their height to the scope centerline, while others define height to the low point of the lower ring and you have to add in the radius of the scope to get the total height. Good luck. |
