Hey guys… so I got my AR (An M&P15T) and now I want to put some optics on it… it was supposed to come with an Eotech setup but that part of the deal fell through. So now I am getting some optics on my own. Money is really no object the issue is I am torn between the Trijicon ACOG TA31TRD with the Docoptics red dot mounted up top, or an Eotech 557 with the flip to side magnifier. I will be using the gun for three gun shoots here locally. I know this tends to be a bit like the “Dodge , Ford, or Chevy” conversation but I am just looking for honest pros and cons.

First, welcome to the forum and most of all, congrats on having an unlimited money supply.

Right now, the hot ticket for 3-gun optics is a 1-4X variable scope like the Meopta K-Dot or Trijicon AccuPoint.  Seeing that money's no object, you might as well pony up the cash for a S&B Short Dot or Swavorski 1-6X.   These choices largely apply to shooting in Tactical Scope class.  Having tried a cross section of optics, I settled on shooting the EOTech 557 with 4X magnifier because it works out the best for me.
You mentioned the ACOG TA31 ECOS with the red dot on top and that configuration will put you into Open Class.  That's fine as long as you're also going to be using an Open pistol and Shotgun.

Have you checked out Brian Enos forum for all things 3-gun related?

If you are using it for 3 gun, and money is no object, I would suggest running a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x scope in a LaRue LT-104 mount, with a Doctor Optic mounted on the nightforce scope with a LaRue LT-137 J point mount.

See what you can get when you say you are not sweating the cost?

Ok you got me… when I said “Three gun shoots” I didn’t mean anything that was sanctioned or even very well organized. We call them “tactical three gun shoots” and basically it’s the most inclusive form of three gun. All you need is a rifle, a pistol, and a shotgun and you’re in. I live in a very small town and if we attempted to have separated shooting classes there would only be like three people in each class.
Also when I said money was no object that was a bit of an overstatement. My wife and I always get a significant tax refund and I have about 4000 bucks for this AR. I already spent 1699 on the AR (I know that seams high but I didn’t want to wait 18 months for Rock River to make me one, I picked one up from Slingpoint in Lexington KY because they had it available).
Anyway I’m not really interested in a Nightforce, in my humble opinion, there just too expensive for what you get.

oops double post...But I did mean to mention that I will also be using this for home defense, if the Kimber Desert warrior and the Winchester 1300 both fail for some reason….LoL I don’t see that happening but you can’t be too safe.

Regardless which optic you get ... I'd definitely go with LaRue mounts. You can use ANY optic you want, take it off, and put a different optic on.  Point being you can always swap around the optics without losing zero with LaRue mounts. You can't beat that kind of versatility. Obviously you cannot swap the same optics with OTHER weapons because those optics are not zeroed for other weapons.

Yeah I am going to get the La Rue mounts for whatever I get. Any more opinions on what I should be looking at.
