I read on one of the topics that truglo was o.k. for a bottom of the line sight. I just can't afford a $500-$1500 piece at this time but wanted to use one for the range. if a truglo is not worth any amount of money could someone suggest one?  also, should I get one with magnification or not?

thanks!

The simpler the better, I think.  My Truglo worked fine for me until I could get an EO Tech 517 to replace it.  However, once you start talking magnification, it brings other issues into play.  Best to keep it simple.  One warning; I was wrong about it being an absolute cowitness.  Pay clase attention ot your heights if you have a fixed front sight.  If you have a riser, or a clean flat top, all should be well.

I have an a3 upper. looks like i may need a riser of some sort. any idea what size I would need to use witha 2x42? or is there a way not to use a riser ?

I did not use a riser on mine.  It worked, but I had to squish my face in hard on the stock to get a decent sight picture.  Any of the risers from LaRue, GG&G, or the others should work.  If you are planning to get an EO Tech later, I would spring for the LaRue.  Of course, I would spring for the LaRue anyways...

hmmmmm, I could get one.  I was so happy to get it off my rifle when I finally got my EO Tech.  I will see what I can dredge up.  Gimme a couple days?  (watch this space)
