What's your choice on Comp M3/ML3 mounts?
Pics? |
|
I have a nice Daniel Defense with the quick detach lever and it is the cantilever mount that I would sell ya. I bought it and ended up gettin one with an Aimpoint that I purchased. They are great mounts.
Let me know if you are interested by IM'ing me. Thanks Justin |

Aimpoint actually makes their own mount called the QRP. Its the mount that is issued with military rifles that have Aimpoints on them. All the security forces rifles in the Air Force use that mount and I have one on my own rifle and its a great mount and much less expensive then Larue. It has a quick release knob and wide, sturdy base. http://www.ultimak.com/products/APQRPWithSpacer.jpg This one is pictured with an optional spacer installed to co-witness the BUIS with the Aimpoint red dot. I just ordered one which should be here in a couple days. Btw, that quick release knob... other than it's idiot proof design that prevents overtightening, is it just a threaded bolt that can be swapped out with a coin slotted, shorter bolt? My only gripe is that it sicks out too far and looks like a charging handle. |
| I just got off the phone with a tech rep from Aimpoint and he said you cannot swap the long thumb screw bolt out on the QRP mount with a shorter coin slot type. He did say though that if you want a shorter type bolt then use Aimpoint's newer QRP 2 mount that came out last year. I looked around on Google for a picture of this but no results and I couldn't find it on Aimpoint's site either. |

Quoted: Can't agree more, plus it leaves you room for a BUIS and a future magnifier, if you so choose. Larue Cantilever mount. My personal opinion and I consider it a lesson learned after a couple of other "not so good" mounts, is spend the dollars for LaRue quality. I'd say "save for it" but when you look, there isn't that much savings when you look at similar mounts. B2 http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=37&sfs=105c1ff2 |

If they can repeat the same quality in a regular aimpoint mount as they do in the micro mounts, larue is in trouble. |

Matech and Larue dont even need to be in the same sentence. |

Quoted: what is this part around the front of the ML3 scope? It does not seem to be there when I see pictures of it mounted. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh38/mikes822/aimpoint.jpg That ML3 has the rubber cover on. That large bulge is probably there so that it can clear horizontally-split scope rings. The cover comes standard with the ML3, but I and a lot of others simply don't use it.

Designed for the military, I know that bolt on the side probably weighs as much as a 5.56 rnd but it's for easy access purchase by someone under fire wearing gloves that have to remove it asap. Other than that, whats the problems? |

Bullshit http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii21/swatdawg15/jerkit.gif Matech and Larue dont even need to be in the same sentence. Have you handled both? I thought not. Every optic I own is in a Larue mount. So it's not like I have something against Larue. I'm just not blind. People at one time said that DD rails sucked too. They worked on em and now produce a good strong rail set up that's as strong as Larue's, but lighter. But it doesn't come with a buncha free shit.

Other than that, whats the problems? Does not, in my experience, return to zero, and that huge bolt can get in the way of manipulating the charging handle. If you have good iron sights you will never need to remove it, even if the battery dies or if it breaks. Removing it under fire is not a primary requirement IMHO - and even then the ADM and LaRue mounts are easy to remove, gloves or no, and they don't get in the way or stick out to be snagged. Plus the Army people I've talked to don't like the "no overtighten" function. On a 7.62 weapon the mount cannot handle the recoil. |
