Did a ton of research and reading.  These are the scopes I am thinking about. Rifle is an AR15 .223 with 16inch barrel 1x7 twist.  Purpose is range use with some use out in the field and home defense.  Want tight groups 100-300 yards and CQB.

Any opinions are appreciated.

Thanks!

200 yards is a long way !! you will need more than a 4 X scope I have a 4.5 x 14 Nikon
on pretty much the same gun as you and the 200 yard range I have to crank it all the way to 14 to be precise

Just my opinion..

Shit if you have got the coin go with the NF or US optics. 4X is plenty for 4 or 5 hundred yards. Just do not expect too much for groups unless your a one hell of a shot. I would expect pie plate at 300.

I wish I had the delema you have in that price range.

I have used them on and the only one I would recommend not getting would be the Burris.  The USO are very nice but I'm not a fan of FFP 4x scope the reticle get way to small.  The Nightforce 1-4x are great little scopes externally well made.  The ACOGS are always a good way to go for an AR15 platform great reticles, daytime illumination, and very robust.

If your going to be looking at the Nightforce 1-4x and give the price I would also recommend looking at the ELCAN Specter DR.  They are one of the best all around optics you can get.  The ELCAN DR are pricy but worth it.

Here is a link to the ELCAN DR.  ELCAN SPECTER DR LINK.

Consider a Meopta K-Dot 1-4x22.  Retail price is around $750 but a lot of folks find good deals on them.  I got mine from a local hardware store that had it on clearance at the same time it had a 20% off all scopes sale and picked it up for $400 even.

Its not mine.. I've got a Meopta and a 6.8 built for it, but can't afford a Larue mount for it right now since I just spent my money on a Saiga12!

Also, I don't know if this will fit, but consider the weaver extremes or this...

I would worry more about reloading rounds that are going to give consistent shot to shot accuracy at 300 yards and worry less about dropping major coin on a scope.  The scope won't make you a more accurate shooter. It's all in the load.  Try some Lapua Brass-Turn the necks, trim to length.  Get some Hodgden Or VihtaVouri Powder and some Sierra BTHP's.  Most snipers don't go more than 10x because of mirage.  I know many hunters that have used Leupold 2-7X Plain Jane Scopes to bag game out to 400 yards plus.  Unless you're shooting ground hogs don't worry about bells and whistles.

Furthermore, being in one of the most tight ass states in the country I would seriously bag the idea of using an AR for home defense.  In addition to the legality issue, over penetration is a real concern in using an AR for home defense and a handgun or shotgun would be a far better choice.
