Here's a pic I just took. It is inside, though, and a bit dark in my house. Comp M4 on setting 7. Ignore the red reflection. That's just the camera.

I absolutly hate the damn ard killflash. It slows me way down using the optic. I made myself train with it again, and again, but it never got any better. I keep one in my bag, but I dont use em.

Thanks for taking the time to take a pic.

in what waty does it slow you down.

At first they can be distracting, but if you're looking at your target and the dot, you don't notice it's there.

I used one for 3 years while in uniform, the pros outweigh the cons to me. That Aimpoint Red Glare is quite visible from the other side in some conditions, and not being shot is a high priority for most people. With the Killflash on, no glare at all.

I have to strain my eyes more to see threw the damn thing... It may just be my eyesight, and it may work fine for you. To me it seems like I have more field of view, and a faster target ID without the ARD... Your just gonna have to try it and see if it works for you... Over the years id say ive seen around a 50/50 with people using them, V. not using them. One thing is for sure.. It works like its suppose to, it will black out the red glare you see from looking at the front at an angle, BUT it also darkens inside the tue, thus making my eyes work harder = slowing me down.

When I was trying to decide whether or not I wanted the killflash I used the rifle for a few sessions with the front cap on the sight. In my case, it didn't bother me hardly at all. So I decided to get the killflash and I'm happy with it. I suspect you could probably try the same thing... if you find yourself really annoyed or distracted by the sight picture with the front cap on then maybe the killflash isn't for you.

Everyone has some degree of nearsightedness or farsightedness. I personally don't even see the flash kill. Then again I don't see any rear mounted iron sight either, which is why I use a dot.

+1.  When you sit around in the house and look for it you see it and when you look for the target and are shooting you do not notice it.

Not an APoint, but an ACOG TA31F and this has the killflash on it, I like them, no noticable difference on the ACOGs.... at least to me:

The magnification of the ACOG moves the focal plane beyond the killflash so it's not an accurate comparison - but good pic.

So would an aimpoint with 3x mag fall into this category as well?

I don't know in practice - in theory yes, I haven't gotten my magnifier yet. I can tell you in a few days if someone doesn't come along and answer first.

Generally speaking, magnified optics see beyond something like a killflash or a screen door. For example, my camera @ 50mm focal length will clearly show a screen door right in front of it, but at 200mm+ it virtually disappears.

ETA

There's an example of this effect in the second post of this thread:
ACOG shows FSB as a "shadow"

See how the FSB just looks like a shadow? It's because the magnified lens can't focus that close.

if I look for it I see it....if I look at the target I don't see it

mine came mounted on my 2 M2's so I didn't have much choice in the matter....and I don't have the tool to remove them either .  Guess it's a good thing I like them/they don't bother me.

You need no tool.

This is correct.  You don't see the killflash on an aimpoint when using a 3x mag.

kind of OT:  anyone have a shot of a aimpoint w/ magnification on an AR w/ a non-folding FSB?

i think the kill flash make the red dot show up more clear in day time shooting. At least mine does. I know you can allways turn up the intensity but on the lower settings i can absolutely see the dot much more clearly.
