I have a NIB model 512F.I REALLY like the Eotech, but keep reading bad things of them. This is my main "go to-SHTF" gun.I'm very concerned about this and i'm wondering if i should get rid of it and get something more reliable???Are there Eotechs out there that are reliable and that have been used and abused? What to do???

I wish I had a definitive answer for you.  My two issued EOTechs are good to go.

I also own two, and one is solid beyond description.  Schools, thousands of rounds on the flat range and an Afghan tour without any problem at all.  IIRC, it went almost two years on a single set of AA lithium batteries.  I only replaced them because I figured they had to go some time.

The other quit on me during its first range session, with the zero shifting so high that I ran out of down elevation and ended up with a ~450 meter zero on my 11.5" carbine.  Each successive group got higher until the reticle couldn't be raised in the window any more.

I just got it back from L3 and haven't tried it out, as I'm waiting to put it on a 10.5" upper from MSTN.

HTH.

I have had my Eo 512 for only 5 months and so far I love it.

I've been a loyal EOTech user since last year and my 512, 553 and 557s have worked out quite well.  They do see quite a bit of 3-gun action so in that venue, they're rugged enough when you consider those parameters.
Having said that, I have seen EOTech 512s go TU at matches.  All of them used alkaline batteries and the sights started working again once the batteries were removed and reinserted. Stick with the Lithiums to get the most out of your EOTechs.

I've got some old ones and a couple of new ones.  I think the old ones were very reliable.  For some reason Eotech's QC has slipped.  I love the sights and I'm sure they'll get it under control.  From a reliability standpoint, just practice a lot with your rifle and sight and make sure it's reliable for you.  Heck, there are plenty of guys over in war zones right now using Eotechs..........

I've owned a 512 for almost 3 years and a 552 for a little over a year.  Never had a single problem w/either of them.

I just got a 512 eotech after much research. The clincher was talking with friends just back from Iraq. It would seem you have the same problems with all optics regardless of make and those issues are really somewhat rare. You only hear alot about it here 'cause this is where we come to bitch about all problems with firearms etc.

If you decide to get rid of it I'll take it for cheap!

I would sell a gun to put an eotech on my primary gun.
