I want to buy a new Aimpoint Comp M4 or M4s. My question is about the mount that comes with it. Is this mount pretty solid. I will be mounting it on my flattop POF Gas piston AR. Thanks......Craig

I'm sure its extremely solid. Never heard anyone complain about an Aimpont. The Comp M4 is supposed to have an improved and even more solid mount.

I'd just go with the Aimpoint with a LaRue mount through www.larue.com $734.95

QRP2 is a very solid mount. I believe there were some minor issues, but I can't remember what. I think it had to do with screws they were using and I believe it had been rectified. It returns to zero after re-install. The knob I think is still too oversized, but it's a minor issue. It has a spacer that allows for two different mounting heights, although, for AR, I can't see how it'll work without spacer. With spacer, it holds optic a few millimeters lower than LaRue's mount. I have one M4s in LaRue mount and I have another coming which I'll mount in QRP2.

I bought my M4s as a package with Larue mount direct. The knob on the factory mount is nice, but huge. I never even mounted it but just sold it on gunbroker.com for about $40. BSW

It's a VERY solid mount.  Granted the lever arm quick releases like the larue are mch more convenient, but unless you have money to burn I see no need to get them.  The QRP2 on mine returns to zero every time.

The QRP2 mount is very solid mount.  I have shot groups at 200 yards removed it from my carbine, thrown it across the range had it thrown back to me put it back on my carbine and shot the same POA/POI.

The spacer is removable so that it can be used on gooseneck carry handle mounts with M16A2s or on HK416's like the Norweigan and Jordanian Armies.

Thanks alot. I usually go with a LaRue mount but there is alot of deals right now that you can buy the Aimpoint Comp M4 and it comes with a A.R.M.S. 40l rear buis which I need for $700. I figure that is a pretty good deal. I just didn't want to waste time ordering it without the mount if it wasn't going to be a solid mount. Sound like it will work well. I do not intend on removing it often so as long as it's solid and does return to zero I think I will order it and get the free Buis. Thanks for all the input!!

Where are you seeing those deals?  I am looking for this combo myself right now.  Thanks!

FJB,

Is there any way to get a lower third cowitness using the QRP2 or will I have to buy a third party vendor mount? It would be great if you guys could offer a lower third spacer for it.

You'll need to purchase the excellent LT 1.725 CompM4 mount to get a 1/3 co-witness.  No plans to introduce a 1/3 co-witness spacer at this time.

Why do this?  You lose the ability to field verify the Aimpoint zero with the backup sights.  Plus the sight sticks up even further.  I use an Eotech myself and never notice the fixed front sight post.

Thanks.  This is a good price.  The only problem, for me, is that I wanted an ARMS 40L-SP same plane aperture, which is not offered in these deals.

Well the good news is that if you buy it and get the 40l you should have no problem selling it and making the  money you need for the 40sp. There is always  a demand for the 40l. It is one of the most if not the most popular. Would take a bit longer having to sell it but it would be worth it IMO.

I have been a long time EOtech user (absolute cowitness), but I recently purchased a Comp M4S and decided that lower third cowitness works better for me.
