i have an LAR 308 and a Savage 110fp 300 win mag. id love to put good optics on both but with budget in mind im thinking about spending around $700 on a good scope and using quick release rings to go back and forth between guns. not worried about holding zero since i wont swap but twice a year at most for hunting. not sure how well quick release rings will hold up against mag recoil either. please comment

There's more, cheaper, less heavy duty mounts on the site as well.

Ideally you would want the platforms to be as similar as possible so the interchange would be low in hassles. I could see it working if your second rifle was another autoloader....say an AR15.... and you wanted to use the quick release rings.

The 300 win mag is another story. I believe your gut is telling you something about detachable rings and a heavy recoil rifle. I personally wouldn't trust anything that is "quick release w/ levers"  to hold it's zero under the recoil; not consistently anyway. Since you say you will only change the scope once or twice a year; get a set of detach rings for your LAR and a set of sturdy steel rings for your 300. Then go to the range twice a year to sight em in.

Edit: there are quick release rings and bases made for hunting that should work well on your 300. You might try Warne see if they may have a solution(they have tactical mounts that also appear interesting); heres the link:

Warne Scope Mounts

Edit: Quick search has shown me a number of shooters are using Leupold and Warne quick detatch rings on what else....300 win mag......go figure. I personally wouldn't use them....but hey....sounds like they may work for you; never know until you try. Good luck!

I have been using leupold mounts on my 300wsm for 3 years without problems.
