Hi everyone,
I just purchased a Millett DMS-1 scope for my M-4 (it is replacing an Eotech and magnifier). I currently have an ARMS-40 BUIS and would like to keep it on the weapon. Anyone know of a good low cost mount (Picatiny) that would either mount the scope far enough forward, or high enough to clear the ARMS-40 BUIS? I would like to have a quick detach mount if possible, but cost is a consideration. I am looking to spend ~ $150.00 or lower. Thanks all, Mortis... |
| I ran a YHM 6in rail extender with a set of 30mm rings with my DMS-1 until I could get the Larue SPR-E. Since you want to spend just wait till you have another $60 or so lying around and just get the SPR-E from Larue. It will also get you some Larue goodies as well. |

ARMS 40 is a hard BUIS to clear - it's very tall. That's why they came out with the 40L.
To figure it out, you take the eyepiece diameter of the DMS-1, divide it by 2, and add that to the height of the 40. This gives you the minimum mount centerline height you need to clear it. The ARMS 40 is spec'ed at 0.95" (mine is 1.0" even). The DMS-1 eyepiece diameter is 1.7", or 1.8" with Butler Creek flip caps. (1.7/2) + 0.95 = 1.8" (1.85" with flip caps) minimum required centerline height, which is higher than most scope mounts, though LaRue makes the LT-135 one-piece with 1.93" centerline height. The M1S you link to at Midway is only 1.75" centerline, and won't clear your ARMS 40. As was mentioned, the DMS-1 tends to need a lot of forward offset for eye relief, due to the long eyepiece, and that limits the number of mounts that will work with it. You have a few options, aside from the LT-135. Use an extended riser under rings or a shorter one-piece, which will make your scope height pretty high for an AR (iron sight centerline is 1.4" above the rail), or get a shorter BUIS and sell your ARMS 40. Here's the Big List of AR15 one-piece mounts, with heights for most of them: Big List of AR15 One-Piece Mounts Here are some popular BUIS heights: ARMS 40 - 0.950" folded (mine is 1.00" even) YHM-9680 - 0.840" folded (mine is 0.850") Matech - 0.75" folded MI ERS - 0.750" folded GG&G MAD - 0.625" folded ARMS 40L - 0.610" folded Troy - 0.460" folded MI MCTAR-SPLP - .4375" folded KAC 300m - 0.315" folded |
