How well can you see past 200 yards?

Welcome to the site.  I have an EoTech 516, and it's not much different from the 512.  I like mine.  It's well made, and I like the dot in a circle reticle.  I learned from other members here that, if you have any astigmatism, the EoTech reticle image will appear fuzzy; the greater the astigmatism, the fuzzier the reticle image.  I can't begin to explain why that is, and I don't know if astigmatism affects the reticle picture in Aimpoints, Trijicons, etc or not.  Anyway, I now have an appointment with my optometrist.

The EoTech is actually quite a chunky unit, it's fairly wide and it takes up quite a bit of rail space.  It fits my needs, though, and the price is pretty affordable.  If I had to do it all over again, I think I'd consider more strongly the new Aimpoint T1, H1, etc, on a Larue tall mount.  That's a more expensive solution, but I like how compact it is.

Just my two cents worth,
Dennis

I love my 512.  It has served me well for close to 2.5 years now

I was also thinking about a 3x or 4x magnifier when the money situation is good. Does anybody know of any good ones and half way cheap?

I recently bought a 552; I like it better than my Aimpoint for shooting past 100yards because of the fine 1MOA inner dot.  The Aimpoint covers too much of the target.

I have a 552 date code feb '06.works , even after taking a hell of a toss down some stairs, across gravel and into a tree.

some people like them and some hate them. I like!

Personal preference.

Both EOTECH and Aimpoint are good optics.  EOTECH is not as durable as Aimpoint.  EOTECH is easier to pick up initially.  Magnifiers extend both down range nicely.  Buy a Comp2 or 3 Aimpoint and you are at the same dollars as an EOTECH.

I went with durabilibty.  I love my Aimpoint

Just got my 512 on the advice of an ex marine.Told me both eotech and aimpoint are good and has used both. He pointed out the differences and flaws in both and eotech won out. Cant wait to take it out.

I have a 512 and 552, unless you will even uss NVGs 512 is a good option.  I have even mounted my 552 on my AR-50 50BMG and it handled the recoil great.  It will work fine out 200 meters.

If you are looking for a good magnification system at a good price, try the LaRue 2.5X PoBoy Special.  Combined the 512 and the PoBoy takes up a good deal of rail space being the only major drawback experienced to date.

It has taken some effort to zero the unit but once "on" it is really "dead on."

my buddy just bought a 512 from the px a couple weeks back. we took his new rig out to the range once and now he wants a magnified scope instead. he's offering to sell it to me for $200 and it's a mint piece. I don't really need an eotech now, but know it will come in handy down the road. should i go ahead and buy it just b/c he's selling it so cheap?

Sounds like a good deal, especially if it's like new.  Even if it was out of warranty and you had to ship it back to EOTech for a $100 overhaul, you'd still come out ahead.  You can always eBay it if you decide you hate it and need some fast cash.

I say look through one BEFORE you buy...  If you have an astigmatism, the retical image could appear blurry, and you might wind up being better served with something else if that happens.
