I just bought a LaRue Stealth upper (complete) and I'm shopping for BUISs for it. Will there be a significant amount of difference between a front sight that's located on the rail versus one that's barrel-mounted and up near the end of the barrel? I would imagine that the further forward the front sight is, the more accurate the iron sights will be- is this correct?
Assuming a barrel mounted front sight would be more accurate, is a clamp-on sight my only option or is it possible/adviseable to have one fixed to the barrel by a riflesmith? I have a 13.2" handguard on my upper, which leaves about 6 inches of exposed barrel to work with- as far as mounting a front iron sight. Will this short distance actually effect the accuracy of iron sights or is it too small to worry about? I've been looking at TROY, GG&G, Vltor, Knights and Samson so far. I grew up shooting competitively with a peep sight and have always had a real love for shooting open sights. So, I'd like to get a setup that will allow me to shoot pretty accurately out to 100-150 yards- enough to pop a coyote. I may not be able to my part, but I'd like a setup that would allow me to if I still have the ability. Any suggestions? Thanks! Nick |
| Get a Troy. Its the best. No need for a barrel mounted clamp sight. I used a PRI gas block/fornt sight and now use a Troy flip on a rail. The extra tiny amount is no biggie at all and neither is the rail mount. You will never notice. The best BUIS out there are Troys. They are also the most expensive. |
