Trying to make up my mind to pull the trigger on a SS scope or go with the Nikon Buckmasters Midway is running on sale.

Will be used for punching paper at 200-300 yds so fixed power on the SS is not a problem. 30 mm tube is a plus for SS, Nikon rep & warrenty a plus for Nikon.

Any input on experience with the current SS scopes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

The Nikons get good review but are limited on elevation adjustment. If you eventually plan to reach out to 800 or so you are going to run out of elevation forcing you to go with a 15-20 MOA base.

The SS has more elevation than you will ever need. My SS also tracks very well.

I would recommend going with the rear focus SS over the side focus. The rear focus is more precise and there is no lash that plagues all side focus scopes.

Why is the side focus SS more expensive if the rear focus is better?

I am looking at getting a SS for the Target RFB that Kel-Tec is coming out with and I am just trying to learn more.

i just got rid of my buckmaster 6-18x40mm for a super sniper 16x. The nikon glass is MUCH better, other than that the Super Sniper is better: durability, reticle use, excellent turrets, ect....

The linkage to the side focus knob is complex thus requiring more expense. If you look at dedicated benchrest scopes you will notice that the parallax adjustment is almost always on the oblective or tube. It just works better there but is harder to access/see from the shooting position.

I have a 16X SS on a .50 BMG and it's held up real well. I like the amount of elevation it has as I can zero at 100 yards and still have travel left at 1000 yards. The eye relief is limited but other than that, I like it for the price.

Thanks to all for the replys.  Super Sniper it is.   BTW, it will be sitting on top of a K31.

My $79 Simmons ATV has better optics than the $300 SuperSniper.

When you buy a Super Sniper, you're buying 100+ moa elevation and a mildot reticle and a reputation for toughness. That's it.

It's optics are wildly overrated.
