Ok. I know this is not the "bolt action" forum but i didnt see another place to ask so here it is. I will be getting a Rem. 700 Tactical in .308 and I need a good scope for about $200. I will be using it for deer hunting and I should mention it will be my first time |
| I'll go ahead and say it before someone else does, If your gonna spend the money on the gun, go ahead and buy a decent scope. You get what you pay for. If you can't dish it out right now, then go at least with a well known brand. Take a look at the lower end Leupolds. I've had several vari-x 2's and 3's and they are great scopes for the money, plus a warranty thats hardly beaten. I've always heard what you spend on your rifle, try to spend at least that on the rifle--IMO |
The scope in the link is a Leupold. |
Sorry bout that, I was at work and couldn't get the link to open. It really depends on how far you plan on shooting. Inside of 200 yards, and for 200 dollar range, its not bad but I'd look around a little more and maybe find a better deal. I'd look for something around 4x12x40 just so if you want to reach out there you can. |

I would and have bought Burris Fullfield II's over a Leupold Rifleman or VX I. The Burris is close to the same price and has solid click adjustments. I do not like the fiction adjustments on the lower end Leupolds. I have both brands. Burris better value. But spend a little more money for a VX II and I think it is a slightly better(clearer) scope. The best scope for $200 is the Nikon Primos from SWFA. It has Nikon Monarch optics for half the price. www.swfa.com/c-2119-nikon-team-primos-riflescopes.aspx |
| I have owned many scopes in my lifetime, and in my opinion the Weaver Grand Slams are one of the best scopes for the money. I had a Weaver GS 3x9 mounted on my .300 Weatherby for years and it worked like a champ, even under heavy recoil. It has since moved onto another rifle but is still trucking after all these years. Optics are clear and bright. Also, for hunting, my experience is that you rarely need anything more powerful than a 3x9, unless going after small targets at long range. |
This is what I went with, although I got it from Gander Mt. The glass is really crisp and clear. I cant wait to get it mounted and sighted in.............then KILL KILL KILL ETA: Thanks for the replies guys. |
BIG fan of my 4200 variant. But if plan on going way out past 600yds later, do homework on the available clicks for elevation. |
