I am thinking of getting a Bushnell Elite 3200 scope for hunting.  Is this a good choice and what magnification should I get?  They are available in 3-9x40, 3-9x50, and 3-10x40.  This site  www.opticsspot.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=163 seems to have some decent prices.

It is a pretty good optic for the money. What will you be putting it on and what will you be going for?

It will be going on an RRA w/16in barrel.  It will be primarily used for target and varmint shooting.

3-9x40 unless you plan on shooting in low light.

You could get the 3-9x50 anyway since you will need a really high mount.

Thanks.  That's the 3-9x50 was what I was leaning towards.

As has been stated, if you will be shooting in reduced light, the larger objective will be your best friend.  Both of my hunting rifles have 50mm objectives.

So what is the effective distance of a 3-9x50?
