My first response wants to know why it has to be one of those two.  My second wants to know what you plan to use it for so that I can better answer the first.

Zero the Aimpoint with the ammo you plan to shoot.

I zero mine with 55gr. FMJ because that's what I have.

Home defense?  SHTF?  Work?  Zero distance?  I'd probably go with the hollow point, like a Sierra hollow point...accuracy would be best.

Depending on your zero distance, there are targets out there that allow you to shoot at 25 yards, and be zeroed for 50 or 100 yards.

Good luck!

home defense shtf. but the rifle tube is only 25 yards. if you zero it in at 25 yards does it hit high at 50 yards?

Zero iron sights first, then adjust aimpoint dot to tip of front sight post.  Your aimpoint is now sighted in.  Use what ever ammo you want.

what range is best to zero a aimpoint 25 or 50 yards?

It's better to use a 50 yard zero.  It will allow for point of aim hits out to 200 yards all within about 2 inches.  It's the same zero used for Improvised Battle Sight Zero.

We always zero at 50 yards. +1 to the above.
