| What size riflescope do you recommend? |

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life. I think you need to figure out some things about your own needs and do some basic research on scopes and how to choose them. This site or any of a number of good shooting sites, chuckhawks.com, etc. ought to be of help. THEN you can ask that question. Good luck. |

Gee, that's kind of an open ended question. I prefer one with a 1 inch tube no longer than 14 inches. However, there is nothing wrong with the 30mm tubes. Now, if what you are asking is what power range, it depends on the application. Varmints (long range) with a precision rifle = at least a 4-16 power or possibly a 6-18 power. Some varmints up to deer = 3.5-10 power Small game up to deer = 2-7 or 3-9 power. In MY opinion, many people go into the woods for deer way over scoped. One of my two favorite rigs is a Brazilian Mauser in 7x57 with a Mueller multi-shot 2-7 power lighted reticle. Good glass, great reticle and will shoot MOA absolute death to pigs and deer out to about 400 yards if need be. My Sendero 7mm Magnum wears a Mueller Tac-2 3.5-10. My .243 with QD rings, a 4-16 for hunting and an 8-25 for target work. |

I used to see 2-7x, and 3-9x40 power scopes for centerfire hunting. I use Burris 4.5-14x42 Fullfield II on my 7mm Magnum, but I popped it off today and it mounted it on my DPMS Panther 20 bull barrel. I have the Burris quick release rings. Weirdly enough, it went right on. However, the quick release handle almost touches the side of the rifle. I am good to go up to 600 yards. I really like the range of the Burris, but hate the controls. I may get a 3-9x40, because it is a bit shorter and will fit on the AR a more easily. There is lots of eye relief, but the back of the scope is too close too my face. With the shorter scope, I can push it forward. My dad uses a 6-18x power scope on his varmint .22-250. Not much fun (narrow FOV field of view) under a 100 yards. I had mine turned up to 10x and a coyote ran out from under us. Later I got one at 240yards on 6x. I decided to leave on low, until I need more. My brother put a Zeiss 5-20x(1k$) on his highly modded 8x57Mauser. It is a ton of scope. But if he ever decides to shoot 1000 yards, he just needs some canted mounts. High BC of the .323 caliber at 200grains, is plenty of stable, but lots of drop. A fixed 4x or 6x is plenty for a lot of hunting situations. I asked several folks what the average distance of a kill was in Texas, some said 100 yards, other said 150yards. The power factor has really gone up. Some are 6x, eg 2-12x power. |

What is the barrel length, what is the max distance you will like to shoot, and will me be mainly used to just shooting at a bench?
