I have finally decided that I am not happy with my EOtech and I want to switch to the aimpoint. So should I settle for the M3 and put myself closer to having a magnifier, or should I bite the bullet and go with the M4? Also what is the weight difference between the two? Any imput would be apprieciated! I personally feel that if my M3 runs out of batteries when the SHTF, than I should just be happy im still alive! But then again the M4 is only ~$110 more. ![]() ETA sorry about the spelling on the poll. |
When? Dude... ![]() I vote ML3. The $200 extra isn't worth it, IMO. Unless you have night vision, you do not need the M3. I just went through this same decision process last week. I scoured the EE and found a cheap ML3 with a mount. Good to go! If the batteries are such a big deal, buy 10 of them. That should last you the rest of your life. |
Thats one of my main concerns, weight and size. I already think my EOtech 512 is huge. I also kind of prefer the look of the M3 over the M4. |

The ML3 or M3 is more than enough. You can get the 2moa dot on either model. You can go with an inexpensive 30mm ring mount for 20 or 30 bucks if QR is not your concern, or you can get an awesome QR ring from LaRue, ADM, GG&G etc... The M3/ML3 are much more practical for the costs. I have NEVER seen a single optic EVER rotate in a ring (doesn't mean it cant happen) so I wouldn't buy the M4 just because of the base. And as for batteries, just keep an extra around They last for like 11 years shelf life anyways. Put the cash towards a magnifier |
I've never used NV with mine (since i dont have NV) but from what i hear, you can use the lowest 2 (even lowest 3?) settings fine with a NV monocular. |
The lowest 2 setings work fine with gen 3 and the lowest 4-5 with gen 1 and 2. I have used both the M3 and ML3. The M3 has 2 dimmer settings for use with Gen 3 nv in an extremely dark environment. 99% of the time, those bottom 2 settings are too dim so you end up using seting 3 or 4 anyway. With the M3 there is no off setting. However, it would take 50 years to drain a battery on that setting. In other words, you don't need an off setting. The ML3 works fine with nv. |
Do you have a picture with your M4 mounted? |

ML3 W/LT-129 mount. I have both the 2MOA and 4MOA. I can't imagine ever changing to something else. If I ever need a magnifier I'd get one but for the range I shoot at...250 yrds the 2MOA works great. All other the 4MOA is fine. And the battery life is absolutely astounding. Just my .02 Midlength |
| I've got an M3 and an M4. The M4 is a big hunk of metal, but AAs are nice. It's prolly got an edge on ruggedness as well. But, if I was going to buy another CCO, it would be an M3 because the price point is simply better. The M3 is a hell of an optic in it's own and should not be viewed as inferior. |
