Thanks Lumpy, I will call them Monday, and I already know who the local Aimpoint "dealer" is, Amchar, the same company that is importing the GSG-5 (MP5 clone in .22lr) here in Rochester, NY. I guess that is the route to take on Monday, I'm not sure calling at 11:56pm on a Saturday night is gonna be very productive ![]() Just sucks cause I really thought any Aimpoint was hard core bad ass indestructible. Guess I just found a weakness and I happened to fuck it up just right In all fairness, its still on, and could continue to do its job as an optic to put aimed fire on target, it just sucks that I cannot adjust the brightness setting and its broken . |
Well thanks Capatain Obvious, that really doesn't help the issue at hand. I posted this in a techinical forum vs GD to get some help and avoid comments like that. I admited that I shouldn't have leaned it on the wall in the first post ![]() |
So to say that I've had no problems to date with any of my "top 3" optics is now GD??? All 3 have die hard "fanboys", I was trying to come off as being not GD by showing that I was not partial to anyone more than the other. I obviously didn't write it correctly...I didn't want my posting to come off as bashing the Aimpoint. Hell, it was what I chose to put on my HD carbine. Its very difficult to ask for advice about such a touchy subject as an optic breaking without having the fanboys vs the haters go after each other as "proof" that they are either right or wrong in their favorite choice optic.... |
By emphasizing the relative ease with which the optic broke and calling out the fanboys, you set yourself up to fail. Post the facts and ask your question and you will have a much more successful thread. |
Thanks. Its late I guess, I thought I worded it better and I over thought it... |
WOW, I didn't know that. So when I'm looking at the knob closely, it appears as if it was sheared off cleanly about 4mm down the threaded stem of the adjustment knob . I don't see any loctite or other adhesive compound (JB Weld or epoxy) that is obviously where it shouldn't be. Besides some red or blue residue around the broken area, how would one tell if it had been previously broken and half assed re-attached? Any links to those other folks and how they got their Aimpoints fixed/what their experience was getting it fixed? Thanks |
Great to hear! Where did you send it? On Aimpoints website, they direct the user to find a local distributor (I think thats what they called them) to have servicing done there. Or did you send it to Aimpoint somewhere else than the local contact? Thanks. I'm planning on contacting Aimpoint on Monday during business hours, but anything that can save me time/effort in getting my CompM2 up and running correctly is much apprecieated. |
1. Aimpoint will fix your sight, it's still under warranty and you don't need a receipt. 2. Call 877-AIMPOINT, and ask for John or use his extension, x223 3. Buy a CompM4, the switch IS indestructible. |
The guy on the phone, John, gave me the Aimpoint address and a RMA#. The scope went to John and after John inspected it he sent it to Sweeden. 6 weeks later I got a repaired scope back - under warranty - no charge. I called John during the 6th week to see if he got it back and he said it was not in the shipment he just received; I got it in the mail 3 days later. Aimpoint and John treated me right and I have no reservations calling them about anything in th efuture. |
Thank you, I appreciate your info. I will be calling John tomorrow morning! |

There seem to be a number of Aimpoints showing up on E-Bay and on the EE. I was able to get two that were beat up a bit but seem to work well. Interestingly many of them including the two I bought seem to be the same setup with no flip up covers, rubber bikini slip over covers, and factory Aimpoint M68 spring loaded knob mount. I wonder is some distributor released a bunch of these from an agency trade in? The M2 in the picture you posted does seem to have a small impact point at the edge of where the broken knob should be. Could have struck something during rough handling or shipping. Nevertheless Aimpoint will probably take care of the issue. Full-Auto |
Remember, Aimpoint just won a contract for 750.000 M4's, so my guess is alot of .Mil units are dumping there M2's (which are past there service life anyhow) and there getting snapped up and being resold. And most of these units have seen service on the magnitude of which few folks will comprehend. -VP Aimpoint cheer squad)..... |
