Hi guys!

I have a new ACOG. Its a TA31TRD with BAC and Trijicon factory version of the Doctor Optic. I put it on a Colt 6920. I purchased a set of Troy BUIS for the rifle also. The problem is that with the BUIS in place and pushed as far back as they will go I cannot get acceptable eye relief on the ACOG. With the BUIS as far back as they will go, the back of the ACOG mount fits into the T11 rail space (i.e. there is one rail space, the T12 space between the BUIS and the ACOG mount.). In order to get good eye relief I had to remove the BUIS all together.

My question is am I doing something wrong or is there another cure for this? Its true I don't need the BUIS but I have them and they look cool and so it'd be nice to able to put them on there if possible. I see many other people using these exact sights with the TA31.

aw shit, my TA45-4 is getting deliverd tomorrow.  Will I have the same problem?

Edit:
I just got it and there is no problem on an M4 stock.  You do have to move your nose up near the gas block, though.  I have mine mounted in front of Troy BUIS.

With collapsible stocks, most people never have a problem with eye relief.

It's when you run an A2 stock, or similar length that things get tricky.

So when is this coming out?

A lot of people have reported problems with the eye relief with 4x32 ACOGs, and will mount the ACOG as far back on the rail as possible, and mount the BUIS in front of the ACOG on the receiver.

Usually, though, it seems limited to the 4x32 ACOGs, I've not heard of it being a problem with any of the lower powered ones.

I too have the same problem, but can't bring myself to remove my Troy BUIS.

+1

I have a TA31RCOm4 on my LMT and I am able to use it with a BUIS but I normally have the stock at  two clicks from fully collapsed to get my nose up on the charging handle

I also run a TA31F on my A4 clone and with the A2 stock I do not run a BUIS because I can't get proper eye relief.

I can speak for a lower-powered one. I have a TA47-4 (2x amber crosshair) and it sits in my LaRue mount with the "tab" in slot #4, so there is plenty of room behind and below the ACOG for BUIS.

I ran the BUIS in front of the TA31 for a while on mine - I just adapted to using it mounted one space away from my TROY buis, and went with that.

If I need the space again, or decide I want the optic farther back (switching to an EMOD stock), I wouldn't hesitate to mount a KAC or Matech 300m front flip-up in front of the optic (Prefer the KAC so it can run under more of the ARD), since that setup works very well for me running irons.

It looks so good with the ACOG over BUIS in back, but this is my working gun, and I can't let form supercede function.

Never had a problem with a TA01NSN mounted just in front of the BUIS but then again it may just be me.

IIRC, the 4x ACOG models (TA01, TA31) have, compared to others like the TA33 and TA11s, very short eye relief. So, if you can fit a Buis, well, it's the ACOG's lack of eye relief, not you. (IMO, YMMV)

I just mount them without a BUIS  I am not afraid of the ACOG screwing up.  I dont see many pics of marines in combat with a BUIS so i figured if its tough enough they trust it, then its more tough than I will  ever need

I normally do the nose close to the charging handle thing and don't have a problem with eye relief.

+1 If you shoot nose to charging handle it is not a problem.  I only shoot nose to charging handle because thats the way the drills taught me and it has never failed me.

Slide your stock in a notch or two and your problem will be fixed.

YES!  Fantastic.  I shoot NTCH with my 4x32 ACOG's on the front most rail slot, needless to say, eye relief isn't so much of a problem for me, though I do tend to shoot with the stock either fully collapsed, or very close to.

TA01NSN
Larue/Troy BUIS

I collapse my 6p stock 2/3 way in and I shoot nose to charging handle.
I am always taking the ACOG off and shooting the Irons!
Yes, I know, I need to get the Larue LT 100 mount.

Will the Larue LT100 mount bring the ACOG any further back compared to the stock Trijicon mount?

No, only an ARMS BUIS and ARMS 19S combo will bring it back and only 1 notch.

I believe eye relief is 1.5 inches with the 4x ACOG.

IIRC it's right at 2". Either way, I have no problem shooting my TA31DOC if I'm anywhere close to NTCH.

A little uncomfortable for some, especially with an A2 stock.  Couple that with body armor and it becomes an issue.

The Larue only has 2 mounting holes, whereas the A.R.M.S. 19 dual throw lever ACOG mount has 5 holes for 3 different mounting positions. You may be able to mount your BUIS in last slot, then mount the A.R.M.S. 19 mount as far back as it will go with the ACOG in the farthest back mounting holes.
