I've noticed that more and more of the slim profile scopes like that are coming out now. They all seem to be roughly the same style where its a magnification between 1x and 4x, and the objective lens is 14mm to 20mm. The Burris Timberline was featured in the latest Midway USA catalog I received and I may pick one up given the reputation of the company and the affordable cost. At first I thought these style of scopes looked funky, but I can see the advantage to not having a bulky optic on a rifle.  Burris Timberline Scopes I'm guessing the main difference between Model A from X company and Model C from Z company would be in the glass clarity, reinforcements within the tube for added protection and any non-mechanical features. |
Well, that and the scope you posted is a fixed 4x while the one being discussed is a variable from 1x to 6x and everything in between, then there is the advanced recticle, oh and dont forget about illumination. Other than that, yea they all fit the same mold.

I have the GRSC 1-4x and if I could convince my agency to let me carry it on duty, I would, *just* for the reticle. At $1k for LEO/Mil the 1-6x is going to take some saving of cash, but I'll have one nonetheless. Again just for the reticle. Sorry you don't like it. Its the fastest ranging reticle I've ever used and I'd love to have it in the field with me. |
Is "height efficiency broad band AR coatings" (or did they mean high) another Counter Sniper like nonsense?
Hmmm....before they a$$ f%^& themselves, maybe we should send them an email with a link to the CS threads as an example of how not to promote their wares....

Ok so the AR (anti-reflective) coating isn't some pseudo-scientific bs, I found something on AR broadband coating here and on NightForce's website here Below is from NF's site: "All air-to-glass surfaces receive our proprietary broadband multi-coating; applied to tolerances of 1/4 wave deposition or .000005 inches, exceeding the toughest Mil-Spec abrasion test. You will see the difference in low-light situations." Sorry to jump the gun

If this scope is what it says it is its is THE most affordable high end scope out there. It combines some of the good from the Short Dot and the Swarovski into one package. Time will tell if its worth it or a sham but make no mistake this IS affordable. High end glass and an extensive feature set in a rugged optic is never under $1000. |
Sorry Dev, that actually just confuses me more That said I do hope that these are the real deal, the specs, ( at least the ones i understand), are mouthwatering for ~ $1000. |

I saw the Ellis riflescopes at SHOT SHOW and was not impressed at all. It was like the Counter Sniper and also look like another cheap Japan Optic makers scope. I have been told they have gotten a lot better but I have not seen one yet. If I were going to pay $1k or more for a scope I would get one that is proven or that has gotten go feedback. Even when Nightforce came out with the NXS model I was a little leery but they are rock solid scopes! At this time I would recommend staying a way form them. I'll be ordering a 1-6 as soon as they've got some ready to ship. I spoke with the owner the other day for a while, and I feel safe enough to drop a grand or so on one. With the current cost of the Short Dot, even a die-hard Schmidt user like me needs some kind of alternative. So yeah, I'll have a review of the 1-6, and possibly the 2-12 sometime in the next few months. Pics, details, pros, and cons. At the very least, the specs sound extremely good on paper. -Tally |

Of course we are concerned about price but it really does boil down to you get what you pay for. We are trying to build a scope to help keep our war fighters alive in real combat. Because then you are stuck with a blue tinted lens, no true 1X, a 4X maximum power, and a milhash-crosshair that cant be illuminated in low light... just a dot. Also a few hundred more = $800+ more... so pretty close to double the actual price. |
You know what would be great this time around? Since this is an expensive optic for medium ranges a MK262 based reticle as an option makes sense. Civilian shooters who buy $1000+ optics shoot 75 and 75 grain ammo and the military shoots 77 grain ammo in SPRs and SAM type rifles. I just hope its not going to be ONLY offered with a M855 reticle. Even just a 7.62x51 reticle option would be better than an M855 reticle. |
