I have a .308 with a Leupold scope on it. It's been on this rifle for 3 years with no issues. I recently bought an anti cant device that mounts on your scope. So....I verified that the scope vertical cross hairs were plum by lining them up on a weighted plum line at 100 yards and placing a level on top of the scope turret. It was level. The vertical cross hairs were plum. I then carefully installed the anti cant device so that it read level while the rifle was level and plum. I take the rifle to the range today and sight in from a seated BR style position. My sight picture looks good to go and I look up at the bubble and it's showing a cant to the left. I look back at the vertical cross hairs and they look plum to me. WTF over! I cant the rifle so that the bubble is level and the cross hairs look canted to the left about 3 or 5 degrees. I shoot some nice .5 inch groups with the perceived cant and bubble level. I also shoot some nice .5 inch groups with rifle canted and the cross hairs straight. Both sets of groups were in the bull. Question: Do I shoot level with the perceived cant or do I adjust the level to my canted eye? Do I throw that anti cant device out the window since I've been shooting fine at distance for years? |
