What is the easiest way to determine the height of my scope, to use bore sighter. I have a magnetic bore sighter that is stumping me. I have an American defense recon scope mount on a 30mm scope. Any help would be awesome!!!!!!!!

steel ruler , middle of scope glass to middle of barrel . hope that helps

Ok.... That is what i did. If that is what everyone does then it will be close enough to get on paper. What i used was a depth indicator and split my scope diameter but didnt know if that was the number to use on a boresighter. Also, i didnt know if there was a magical number you could use for scope mounts... E.G. if you use a recon mount on a flat top with 30mm scope, your height will be 2.xx". Thank you for your help!!

some off the guys here know the # off the top of thier heads , i use steel ruler or what ever is handy to measure , it will get you on paper

Bench just the "upper" w/ the scope mounted and the BCG removed.

Keep your head squarely behind the bore and "eyeball" down the bore centering the upper on the sandbags until it's centered on your target.

Holding the upper tight simply adjust the crosshairs to the same POA you saw down the bore.

Done properly you'll be on the paper and in most cases (once practiced at this skill) within an inch or so with your POI.

eta - depending on the stock and the rifle, as well as head shape and size; most folks require 1.25" to 1.5" in order to get a proper cheekweld when mounting a scope on a flat-topped AR....
