| Outside of the raised base and different battery, what are the differences between the 552 and 553? Thanks guys. I'm trying to pick out a HWS. |

About 1/2 inch and $100... Personally I think the way the 552 mounts give you more options than the 553 where you are stuck with th ARMS levers. However, I seem to remember that EOTech is coming out with a CR123 model that mounts like the 552. I think someone, maybe SMGLee, posted pictures of one in the SHOT Show forum. |
1. There are two of them and this means if you want to use a magnifier or prefer to mount the EOTech on the end of the upper receiver you have to put the front lever/mount on on railed hand guard. This may or may not work depending the type of handguard you have and how well it lines up with your upper receiver. The LaRue only has one latch so you easily move the EOTech up and down the rail without running out of space for the mounts 2. The ARMS lever are not adjustable like the LaRue, this may or may not be an issue unless it doesn't fit your rail. 3. In my personal experience the ARMS mounts I have owned have eventually became loose and will move backward and forward on the rail. To me this is a no-go for optics mounts. 4. While it has not personally happened to me, I have seen many reports of ARMS levers breaking under hard use. I'll err on the side of caution and and keep this in mind. Reason 3 is enough for me to skip the ARMS optics mounts. |
