Okay I just finished building my first AR-15.  Its an A3 flat top upper.

Here's the problem.  The front sight post is in the way of seeing the red dot on target.  How do I remove the front site? It came on the barrel.

Remove the Front sight and Install a gas block or gas block flip up front sight. Or you can alway cut the front sight off, its just kinda ulgy.

Thanks for the quick response!

I guess if it might work I should try it first huh?

The reddot is a DSA I got at wally world.  Yes I'm sure the quality sucks but its what my gun guy recomended for a noob.

Like FMJ said after you zero both your BUIS and your optic the dot should, if they are both zero'd at the same distance, sit on top of you FS post. Hope this helps.

Just to add a visual reference (sorry it's not quite lined up perfectly).

Excellent.  Thank you for the picture.

What does BUIS stand for?

Basicly I just adjust the windage and elevation like a normal scope correct?

It stands for Back Up Iron Sights.

If you wanna replace your front sight there are great instructions with pics in the Built It Yourself forum.  Good luck!

Kinda hard to use the front sight without the rear one.  You have the optic, but if it dies on you, that front sight is going to be kinda useless sitting up there

You could always pick up a riser with quick release which would allow your red dot to "see" over the front sight, then you can pick up a rear BUIS which IMHO would be needed if this is gonna be your go-to rifle.

Of course once you do this you're screwed, it's all down hill from here.  You'll need a rail system to attach all the bells and whistles to

The main purpose of this gun is target shooting and bunny blasting.  Thats a good idea on the riser.  I'll have to see if they have one at the range today when I go to break in the barrel.

Its not intented to be a defense or go-to gun.  I have a 10mm S&W for that. :)

THAT is the problem, not the front sight.

You bought an optic which was not designed to be used on an AR.

Go buy a 1/2" riser (YHM sells them) and you're problem will be gone (and you won't have to hack up your rifle).

Do you think wally world carries them?  I'm heading to the range today and really want to get this thing broke in.  Maybe I'll call the range and see if they have one.

Edit: also is there a way to remove the little inner post in the front sight?  Thats what is blocking the reddot.

Shoot with both eyes open and you won't see the front sight post.

Don't buy anything anywhere , least of all Wallyworld without looking in the EE here first.

Please no Chinese AR stuff , just doesn't seem right.

I decided not to cut anything up right now so I'm going to order a new gas block.
