| Has anybody had a problem with a Matech sight not clamping on a rail? I have a buddy that has one and it won't clamp on a CMT rail. |

Funny you should ask that. I was playing around with mounts sights the other day, and found my YHM flip-up BUIS wouldn't clamp tightly on my CMMG upper. If I finger-tighten the YHM thumbscrew, it's still slightly loose, while cranking down on it with a screwdriver tightens it up. On the JT upper that was on the bench at the same time, finger-tight gave a good, solid clamp. I just went to check my other BUIS', and the Matech won't clamp tightly on the CMMG either. My ARMS 40 will. All of these work on one of my JT uppers. I haven't tried my other uppers yet. Looks like there are 2 issues on mine - my CMMG upper appears to be slightly out of spec (but I'll need to verify that when I get the time), and my Matech has a problem with the clamp screw alignment. Mounting my Matech BUIS for the first time, it looks like the hole in the clamp is off a bit. The clamp fits the BUIS with no screw, and the screw fits the hole with no clamp, but trying to pull the clamp down tight with the screw makes the screw bind in the holes, and won't close the gap between the clamp and the sight body. I'm wondering if this is why so many Matechs have been showing up at very low prices in recent times, after being hard to find for a long time. Some BUIS have more flexibility in their clamping arrangement for out of spec uppers, but it looks like the Matech doesn't. I made a few quick measurements the other night, but haven't homed in on what the difference is yet. I'll try to get a closer look and post the results here. Anyone else see anything like this? |
