Apparently it's a couple years old. This from Jane's... Aimpoint (Stand D6/5), one of the premier manufacturers of gun sights, has chosen Eurosatory as a launch pad for an innovative sighting system. The Concealed Engagement Unit (CEU) is the latest component to be incorporated into the company’s ‘system of systems’ approach to sighting systems. According to company president Lennart Ljungfelt, the CEU gives the user “the ability to observe or engage a threat from a protected position”. The unit is a patented system that was originally developed by Australia’s Defence Science and Technology Organisation under the name of Off-Axis Viewing Device. At a time when there is increasing interest in giving forces an edge during urban operations, the CEU is one cost-effective way of increasing the individual soldier’s situational awareness. According to Aimpoint, the new unit will be available from mid-2006 and will be compatible with the company’s existing range of sights. Aimpoint has also developed a magnifying module for its Comp-M series sights. The 3xMag has been thoroughly tested during both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Another innovation has been Aimpoint’s patented new mount called Aimpoint TwistMount. This allows operators to switch quickly from semi-sniping to close quarter battle.Aimpoint’s innovation and continuing development of existing solutions have allowed the company to capture a leading market share. The company’s success was underlined last month by a further order from the US Army for 163,000 optical rifle sights. Since 1997, Aimpoint has delivered more than 500,000 sights into service with US forces. |
