I've got a SW M&P15A with a 4x ACOG scope.  I'm looking to shoot longer ranges up to 600 yards.  The Simmons Whitetail Classic 4-20x50 is on sale, would this work for me?  Also, I have no idea which rings I'll need to mount it. Anyone have any advice for me on this setup?  I'd like to mount it low but also want to avoid having the front sight in the way.

did you mean Simmons 6.5x20x50 WTC.? If so the scope bell will probably be right against the front sight or very close if you have a 16" barrel. The WTC is a pretty big scope at 15"length.

Your probably better off with a good 3x12 power.

Could I possiby remove the front sight, install a picatinny rail, then mount the scope.  Or, just remove the iron sights all together?

yes. you could change thefront sight out for a low profile gasblock. You would be fine then.

Thank you for the quick responses.  Any suggestions on a particuar gas block and picatinny handguards?  I don't know much about upgrades for the M&P15A so detail are appreciated.  Thank you for the help.

theres a good selection of gas blocks out there, steel or aluminum, pinch bolt or set screw. You can also shave down a standard front sight so it would be similiar to a Bushmaster predator rfles gas block. Just make sure the port in the gas block is lined up with the barrel port when you install it.

As far as hanguards I have non railed float tubes and YHM tubes on my varmint rifles. I'm not sure whats out there in 2 piece railed handguards. YHM has some and there priced decent.

I called S&W and asked who makes thier products.  He told me that the handguards along with many other parts are made by Troy Mnfg.  I managed to find one place onine with the 10in Troy rail in stock and got the gas block to go with it.  Thank you for all the info and I'll try to post some pics when it's finished.
