Questions for sandbox vets:  Which optics are the most popular?  Which held up the best?  Which do you prefer?  What broke?  Thanks for serving and posting.

Only Vets please, no mall ninjas opinions are valid as polished floors and department stores do not test durability.

I have seen both break, but both are very sturdy. I prefer the ACOG over the M68 though, it seems to me to be the best of both worlds, at least the TA31F version was, the TA01, I was not too impressed with. Now I still liked the 68, I just prefer the ACOG.

aimpoint

eta, you don't need to be a vet to have a valid opinion in fact there are many here who did not serve but i will hold their opinions higher than your typical grunt.

Thankyou both for your opinions, Allen: point taken, I just want real world survival opinions and shooting on a range in the U.S. is not the info I am interested in this week.

Please!   more opinions, I respect them.

I prefer the aimpoint over the acog because it works better in certain conditions.  I found the acog almost useless inside 50 meters, especially if working under dim lighting or at nighttime.  However, I've seen more aimpoints than acogs crap out, but that's to be expected with the multiple parts, and the electronics.  I think the best option out right now is the aimpoint, along with the X3 magnifier.   Also, the acog with the Docter Optics red dot on the top is a valid contender.  If I could afford that $1400 piece of glass, believe me, It'd be sitting on top of my rifle!
