I'm looking for a under 400$ scope recomendation for a target scope for my first build that you can see here.

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=354185

I've currently have a variable scope, 10 - 40 x 50 now on another gun and it works fine.

I see that a lot of guys use a fixed power scope on their ARs but I don't have any experience with them. I bench shoot 100 - 300 yards 99 % of the time.  So what I'm asking is whats better for a target / bench rifle. A fixed or variable scope. I'm looking at the super sniper scopes 20x42 but is a 20x strong enough for bullseye target shooting at 300 yards?

Thanks for the help

Look into the 16x42 SS.  Should be enough.  Fixed is fine for bench.
