I have noticed that more chose the 512 over the 551, and the reason was?

AA batteries (512) as opposed to N-type batteries (551). AA's easier to get and last longer than the N's.

Are N's hard to get? So would you say that the 551 would be the choice, if not for the battery issue?

I have a 551 and finding batteries hasn't been a problem.

I wish I had one an ALL my AR's!

I have owned both and the AA's are easier to find and last a lot longer. The only possible advantage to the N battery model is it is a little shorter if that matters.

i use 2 551 eotechs they are nice because they are shorter but if i buy another one it would be a 512 aa. you can buy aa batteries just about any place gas station, party store,etc,etc.512 should have better batterie life also.
