If I use the IBZ method, I know the wheel will still work correctly with the distances on it (it will still be calibrated). Will I come up 2 clicks short and be unable to run it out to the 8/3 setting though out to 800 yards being as I added two clicks under the 8/3 on the other end of the spectrum?

Nope.  You'll be able to go to 800 and beyond.  I've got 3 A2 uppers and they all go from 2 to 4 clicks past 800 with the SIBZ.

So what about the I-IBZ and go 3-clicks under for a zero of "around" 100 yards. My plan is this:

Zero the rifle at the 3/8 using the front sight at 25 yards (to do this you zero DEAD ON at 25 yards and with M193 ball you would go 5 clicks DOWN on the front post to achieve a 36/300y zero).

I would have previously modded the elevation wheel for 3 clicks under the 3/8. Since 2 clicks puts you at a 250yard zero, Minus 1 more click would have you zeroed at CLOSE to 100yards. Not perfect, but +-1" from 50 to 100 yards.  This wouldn't mess up the other calibrations as I would use the front post ONLY on the 3/8 zero and the wheel for the 50 and 100 yard zero, right? Or am I thinking wrong here? I have heard this I-IBZ doesn't work, but according to my calculations it should. THen I would have 1-800m calibrated.

The IBZ and I-IBZ zero works just fine. This has been covered over and over. Whoever is telling you it doesn't is a moron.

I forget where I read that the I-IBZ does not work, but I had read so. I think it should work and I will use it on my rifle. I just wish the military had put it on the wheel to begin with. Why START with ranges outside 90% of normal combat ranges?!?

My main reason for caring is I don't plan on shooting people (I hope I never have to, not that I wouldn't to defend me and mine though), but rather vermin like armadillo's, ect. Hate to say it, but an armadillo or squirrel or whatever is NOT 9" tall (normally). Hence I want something more precise for close in. The I-IBZ is it.

Forest has the complete instructions on the original IBZ on his web site.

I have all my irons set this way.

On the extended range thing... take a look at some of the old bolt action service rifles. Some of them have settings going out like a mile or so.

You're right though. The I-IBZ is what you want. It will work just fine and be very good for shooting smaller targets while leaving you the ability to use the original longer range settings.

Try the Revised IBZ then.  Made specifically to have POA=POI close in, but it still is mainly for KD range use on those settings.  Could be worth a look.
