I would like to mount a scope to the carry handle of my AR. The simple question is do I need high, medium, or low rings with a pro-mag base and scope with these dimensions?

Tube Diameter: 1"
Objective Diameter: 41mm
Ocular Diameter: 44mm

I don't think the end bells will be hitting anything with low rings, but they might obscure the iron sights. (Haven't decided if that is a concern with a scope mounted.) High rings might raise the scope too much for cheek weld. What are you guys using on carry handles?

Thanks!

The last time I mounted a scope to an A2 it was so uncomfortable it wasn't worth the trouble.

I'm fairly certain I used low rings.

Interference is not the issue with a carry handle mount in your instance. If the handle is not detachable, I'd go with the lowest set-up possible. You may or may not be bothered by the front sight being visable through the scope. Alot of folks dont mind and can look past it. Me, it bothers, so I have mine mounted high enough to be clear. There are adjustable cheek pieces for the collapsible models, and replacement adjustable stock for the A1 and A2 models that will allow a somewhat comfortable "cheek weld". Admittadly, the factory fixed stock versions are not the best candidate for a scope if they arent a flat top model.

Sounds like low is the way to go. I don't plan to leave the scope on permanent. It's more for bench checking group size of reloads (minimizing operator error with me using iron sights). For "normal" range work I'll be using iron sights or a red dot.

Thanks!
