I started with an Eotech which I love for it's quickness up close.  I moved to a Leupold CQ/T for it's ability to cross into intermediate range and still be competent up close.   I found it nearly impossible for me to use it though at 500-600 yds.   I know that's a long damned shot but if I didnt have to hold over it would be doable.   This has me looking at the Leupold 1.5-5x20mm.  That scope comes with an M2 bdc dial and the 5x although not alot of magnification should help out on longer ranges.

What else is available in this price range?

Is the Leupy 1.5-5x20 mountable on an AR without using a LaRue mount?  Is there a less expensive option?    I do have one available if I switch out to rings on my other rifle but I'd rather not have to rezero that one.

Look at the 1.5-8X26 IOR.  It has an illuminated reticle option, a built in 223 BDC in the reticle, only weighs 17oz (only 2oz more than the Leupold 1.5-5x20).  It has 35mm rings which can be an issue.

The best buy in the class of non long range scopes is the 2.5-10x42 IOR.  It may seem like a long range scope but it does not have parallax adjustment, only weighs as much as the 1.5-8X scope, has an option for a FFP illuminated mil type reticle as an option and cost is reasonable.  It is really more what you want for the ranges you are looking at (600 yards max) and offers better low light use than the NF 2.5-10X because of the much larger objective lens while beiong MUCH cheaper for equivalent optical quality.  It looks like much more of a traditional sized scope if that bothers you and is more of a competitior against the Leupold 3-9x36 and 2.5-8x36 scopes as they are in the same size and weight class.

IMO if you want to shoot longer ranges you really will be happier with more magnification.

If you are interested in IOR I would email or call Liberty optics and get a price quote as they are MUCH less than the MAP listed on most webistes and have options not listed on the websites either.

I appreciate the info, I'm checking into the 1.8-8  It seems to be the best of the offerings.   The 2.5-10x42 would be alot more inticing if it had the cqb 223 reticle.
