Any one use the YHM Scope Riser?  I was thinking of getting something to raise my glass and move it forward another 1/4 inch or so and the riser looks like it may work.  It is inexpensive, so I wondered about the quality and effectiveness of it.  Thanks.

2 bucks and a doe this weekend and I owe it all to the riser in question.

DO be careful not to over torque the bolts on it however.  oops

I like them, I have not had a problem with anything YHM makes, some people may turn up their nose because it does not cost alot.

I have one on my 6.8 deer rifle.  No problems with it so far, although it hasn't seen heavy use.  But the price is certainly right!

Simmons Pro-Diamond.  Early model with higher quality Japanese glass.  (I know the owner ).  Nice quick low power scope that isn't real expensive.  Several three gun folks swear by 'em.

SSN_Doc,

You guys need to hurry up and get back here. I need my shooting partner.

The scope is an older Simmons 1.5-5x20 Pro Diamond. It is crystal clear, has a huge FOV, and  did not even come close to breaking the piggy bank. As stated above, they are used by many 3 gun shooters as a low cost option.

Hey guys, what height scope rings are you using with that riser. I've got a 1" tube 40mm objective Bushnell 4200 to mount. Great Pics BTW Thanks.

Depends on whether you want the scope centerline around iron sight height or not.

Most AR optics are around 1.3-1.5" centerline above the rail.  The YHM riser is 0.5", so you'd want rings with around 0.75-1" height to the centerline.

Some rings are speced for the height from rail to the bottom of the ring, while others are speced from the rail to the centerline, so you have to check before ordering.  Also, heights are different between different brands and models - Burris' medium is different from Leupold's medium, and Leupolds QRW medium is different from their Mk4 medium.

So these are just held on with allen screws? How does it leave the finish under the riser? This is what I"m looking for.

Thanks,

Wiskey

My YHM is a solid piece, with screws through the body to squeeze it onto the rail.  It doesn't have a removable clamp like most others.  It doesn't use setscrews, so there's no marking of the rail.

I was skeptical, but mine's held so far.

use spray paint if you are worried about marks from mounts

I think some locktite would be in order. No?

NO dont use locktite.  They work great the way they are.  I just went out and shot 300+ rounds and was making 1/2 inch groups with reloads and there was no movement.  I checked the allen screws afterward and they worked like a charm.  Still tight and they didn't harm the flattop.  No worries with the yhm.  Oh, and anyone that says you need a fold down front sight if you mount a scope is lying.  I spent the $75 bucks for one of YJM's and it isn't even visible in the scope because it is too close.  I didn't even see a blur or difference in light gathering.  However they do look cool.

Mine held very securely as well.  If you are worried about it loosening up, just use a stripe of nail polish or china marker as a witness mark across the head of the screw.  Just a quick visual will let you know at a glance if the screw is baking out.

They are of good quality.  use some loc-tite on the screws to keep it locked in place.  you don't want your glass to creep at all after multiple rounds.

If you want the best, go with Larue, if you want something good for a nice price that fits into a budget rifle, YHM is your way to go.  if you want all out cheap, go buy an airsoft gun and leave the real toys for us!

I never put locktite on a rifle part.  Your scope will stay on just fine with the yhm .  I had a gunsmith mount a scope one time and he used locktite to get the screws to stay.  I got the gun home and took it out to the range to find out that the bolt had also been locktited and the firing pin took me 3 hours to get out.  If you think you need locktite (you don't) then be prepared to clean up a mess.
