So I'm in the process of finding a new scope mount with these criteria.  1) I need repeatability because I take my scope off after I shoot. 2)Needs to be a 1 piece mount 3)Mount needs to have a centerline height either right at or very close to 2" from the flat top upper.

I've narrowed down my search to two different mounts. If there are other mounts out there that fit my criteria then post'm up.

First the almighty LaRue Mount

or

Armalite

The only thing I don't know regarding the armalite is that I don't know what the height of an A2 upper iron sights is

+1 on the Larue.      Expensive, but worth every penny.

Also check GG&G and A.R.M.S.
GG&G makes one piece integral rails, and ARMS makes their #35 QD Rail which is a design it yourself on piece. Pick the #35 Track Mounting  ring size and height and attach to the modular rail via stainless steel threaded helicoils in the center channel of the rail. I have a friend who has this setup and it is pretty slick

2 inches is awfully high up.  I've always been of the mind the lower is better.  Larue is quite good.  For repeatable QD, I've had no issues with my Larue mounts.

Also, nearly all one piece mounts are aluminum.  Most of these mounts have the ring hardware threading directly into the aluminum.  Aluminum  threads have a tendency to strip and distort under torque.  Larue's mounts use steel threaded inserts for their rings.  This may not be a big deal to most people, since they only mount one or two scopes in the lifetime of the ring.  But with the Larue, I bet it would last nearly forever.  Also, it will be a lot harder to over torque the Larue rings.

LaRue.

If I had to choose only one LaRue product for the rest of my life, his scope mount would be it.

After shipping  that setup is very close to the same cost as LaRue.  But it does appear to be a nice setup. which I'm gunna have to look at a little closer via phone call to ARMS

Are you just saying LaRue because you drank the "everyone says so" Koolaide or do you actually have a LaRue mount. Yeah I know everyone says get LaRue, but LaRue isn't the endall to everything.  I'm not trying to cheap by saying I'm not getting the LaRue.  LaRue was actually my first choice for this mount, but then I found the armalite, which from talking with people on other forums is a damn nice piece too.  Cost is playing a secondary factor in my decision making after a scope mount has met my first criteria which I already listed at the begining

Does anyone here know the centerline measurements of an A2 upper iron sigh in comparison to an flattop measurement?

A freind of mine has the Armalite mount.  It is not repeatable.  It will get you back on paper at 100yds after removal and remounting but it has been off at least 2" when we have taken it back to the range and remounted it.

No personal experience with the LaRue.  Just a good reputation.

i have had both the Larure and the Armalite....Larue hands down.  i sold the Armalite.....plus the Armalite is 1.5", not the 1.93" of the Larue.  so, the Larue is really your only choice.

if you need 2" the only way to do it is with a riser rail and scope rings.

Is taking your scope off after each range session the cool thing now?

I use the Armalite with no problems; but once I get something sighted it I don't just pop the scope off for S's & G's.

Unfortunatley some safes wont hold a scoped AR correctly. Especially if it has alot of rifles in it  already.

^ part of the problem and my rifle case isn't big enough to hold a scoped AR. It will hold a scoped rifle but not my AR.  I know I need to buy a bigger case, but I'm already shopping for a new scope and scope mount.

Second reason being is that I have iron sights on my build because some places I hunt do not permit use of a scope

I have more than one of his mounts.  And I genuinely believe they are the _best_ product he makes, which is why I said if I could only have one LaRue product that would be it.  Other companies make quality rails, and I can live without the uber awesome QD levers on my gear, but LaRue's mount is absolutely top notch.

Well its good to know you are using products you are endorsing and not some kind of mall ninja

The American Defense stuff looks nice, but why would "The New Player" drop a new product against Larue with the same price. I might try it for about $100 but not at the same price.

And the chorus once again sings ..... +1 Larue

While that statement is 100% accurate. I'm surprised the term mall ninja has never been used here is the linky

Well, the term is definitely used here quite a bit.  What I thought was odd was that for some reason you thought I might be pimping a product I've never owned.

Then again, you never really know.  I could be totally full of shit.

Maybe this will put your mind at ease:

Is there a 35mm Larue mount?  Or just 34mm and 30?

Eta

I ask because I have an IOR 35mm.  The rings seem to hold up okay though, maybe I don't even need it.  I would like a little more height though.

The Armalite 1" one-piece centerline is 1.25" above the rail (at least mine is), so it's lower than the typical 1.5" LaRue, and much lower than your desired 2" (which is really high).
