I think they are wonderful.

TA-01 would be nice.  Black during the day, and a full red reticle at night.    4x power, and a BDC reticle.  This would be a nice choice.

TA-31 would also be a good pick.  Red/Black reticle with BAC.  Has the BDC reticle, and also uses fiber optic to increase the reticle brightness.

TA-33.  Only a 3x, but has better eye relief.  Also has BAC

Play with them all if you can, and then pick the one that fits your needs best.  Some people can't use BAC well, while others like myself find it second nature with limited use.

I love ACOGS to me they are one of the best optics for AR15 setups.  But for the animals you are looking at getting I would recommenced the Leupold MK4 2.5-8x36mm M2 turrets w/ the TMR illuminated.  It sounds like you are going after more accuracy.  It you do go with the the ACOG look at the TA01 or the TA31DOC.

P.S.

+1

Great optic but you might find a little more magnification helpful.  That is why I ditched my TA11 for a Nightforce 2.5-10.

ACOG's are great optics, but their reticles are too bright for use with behind-the-optic NV such as PVS-14, MUM or D-300.  If you can afford the $8k for a PVS-22 or UNS, then the ACOG will work perfect.  Another NV option would be a dedicated scope such as a D-740 or D-760, but then you would also need a day optic.  You may want to check out the NV forum.

As others have suggested, a medium power variable with an illuminated reticle such as Leupold or Nightforce may fit your intended application better.

I have a friend that uses a TA31F for exactly the type of shooting you describe, but not with NV.

I have not use NV with an ACOG but I would think if you put a UNS type of NV unit in front you could do it.

If you need help we can do that also from low-end to high-end.

4x should get you out to 600 yards...

How far are you talking?

TA55 is 5.5x, and has a 50mm objective to help with the exit pupil.

aroud my house which is where i do bout 80% of shooting is no more than 500 there are occasional spots that are 500+ but i dont want to take that risk shooting a animal out that far and it bouncing off. the other 20% are land in pa anywhere out to 2500yards and beyond. just  bunch of field linked together. but i alco want a scope that is good under 50yards.

It sure sounds like what you want is a good variable, like maybe a NF 2.5-10x24 NXS.  Mine will be arriving tomorrow.
