Is an ACOG useable with Night vision I can't seem to find this info anywhere. and if so how does it's use with Night Vision compare to say a Aimpoint Comp M3 when used with Night vision???

Thanks for the advice.

Are you asking if the tritium lit reticule is NV friendly?  That I do not know.  I would think that since there is an eye relief issue with magnified optics, you would mount NV in front of the ACOG, not behind it.

Yes, the ACOG is designed to be used with Night Vision.

bullit, I've used the only one that Trijicon says is NV compatible, a TA01NSN, with my PVS14 and M.U.M, the reticle still blooms.  I haven't tried my BAC 4x32 ACOGs yet, but if the dim TA01NSN reticle would do that, I think the brighter TA31F and TA31DOC reticles would produce even more blooming effect

Yes, they will bloom a little.  We are working on making them all more NV friendly.

Would you mind sharing more info on that.  I hope the red reticle isn't going away.

Thanks!!

I've tried my TA11F with a PVS-14, and the reticle blooms way too much to be useful.  It would probably work well with something like a PVS-22, but I don't have a spare $8k laying around to find out.

For the OP, both NV-compatible AP's and EO's work just dandy with a behind-the-optic monocular.  If you want more magnification, use a 3x mil-spec magnifier.

The ACOG is a great optic, just not with the more common types of NV.

Night vision belongs in front of the ACOG, not behind it.  Get a PVS-22 or better yet a dedicated NV optic with better clarity for LESS money.

Thanks for the info guys... was trying to find this out for a friend... I had told him to go aimpoint from the start... (he has only shot his rifle one time at the range) and I think he got salesman hustled... because some Russian Class III dealer was telling "only this will do" and sold him all this really pricy stuff and he was no idea what it is and now wants NV... and I'm not as familiar with ACOG's because Im an AP and EO guy... So he keeps asking me to find out about NV when I told him the ACOG was a bad call for the job he wants the gun to perform... and now Im gonna tell him i don't recommened him getting the NV for it...

Sorry I got to this thread so late....Should have put it on our NV forum.  Either way, the ACOG's are way too bright for a NOD, with the NOD behind the ACOG.  The bloom is a bit much.  I've talked with Triji at the Vegas SS on this and while their NSN is suppose to be NV compatible, it really is not. The bloom is too wide spread for any real work.  Good to hear the Triji folks are working this issue.

Here is a good example of a PVS-14 behind a NSN with lot's of bloom

As another poster has shown a PVS-22 style of NOD sitting in front of the ACOG is the REAL way to go with this system.  Some of the BEST resolution I have seen with a ACOG NSN is with a ANPVS-22 from OSTI depicted below.  Also for further info, putting a regular PVS-14 or MUM in front of an ACOG is not advisable due to POA/POI shifts that occur. Only gear such as the PVS-22 style of NOD's are made for this type of viewing. Hope this helps.

Hm, do I see a PVS22 in my future?
Sell my M.U.M., then I just need to come up with $4500 to $5000, maybe it's doable

I actually sent my TA 31 back to Trijicon and had the tritium element removed for use with a PVS 14.

ALAS I don't have any photos yet. The Fiber otic still picks up a good deal of light and I am going to build a small IR LED for a reticule illuminator.

The short answer is that in it's current form the ACOG does bloom. I hope Trijicon does make something more NVD friendly.
