I have a fixed carry handle 20" Bushmaster and I'd like to put an ACOG on the carry handle. How do I work through the dizzying array of choices that Trijicon offers? I've been looking at them for days and days and I can't find a logic to select which one I'd want. Any advice appreciated on how to decide the correct model for my uses. (I'm just a hobby shooter... crows, groundhogs, and tin cans sort of shooting. Not military/police, just a "walkabout" the local woods kind of use. I'm 56 years of age and the eyes don't do so well past about 75 yards.) Thanks in advance for sharing your wisdom and experience. JerryinPA |
Hi Bullet, I'm thinking this is the original model if I have it correct? I notice that it doesn't have that fiber optic tube on it... I wonder what that does or if it matters? Anyone? Jerry. |
I think first you should decide how much magnification you want. After that I would go with one of the models that has a little bit longer eye relief such as the compact TA33 or I believe it is the TA11. norris |

Take a look at the "Compact ACOG's befire you buy. They are very ice, great glass, light weight, and I think about ?200 less than full size ACOG's. I had a 2X with Triangle Reticle. The top of the trianagle was used for longer shots. For CQB, just put the triangle on the target and shoot. My reticle was "Amber" and worked well in a lot of environments. A lot of guys like the "Red" reticle. They have a version for a carry handle where you won't even need to buy a mount. Just 1 screw,,,,and it's on. Tack |
Hey Tack, Which model do you have? I have noticed the 3X compacts; I think they are the TA-50-4 series... With the small triangle, if you sight for the top tip of the triangle to be on at 100 yards or so, and you would need to hold over a bit for perhaps a 300 yard shot, does the body of the triangle itself get in your way and block the target? Also, how does a person decide between amber vs red? Is there an advantage/disadvantage to either? Jerry. |
The TA01 would be a good way to go.![]() Mike @ CSGW www.csgunworks.com [email protected] Here’s some testimonials about CS GunWorks What do YOU have to say about CS GunWorks What Do You Think Of Cs Gunworks? FEEDBACK about CSGUNWORKS.com |

there are tons of options. what magnification do you want? is size a factor? do you want fiber optic ill? I would personally buy the ta31(4x shoter eye relief) or ta11(3.5x longer eye relief) If size was an issue I would get the compact ta33 I would want fiber optic ill. and would want at least 3x though. |

The TA01 is a great optic, but if your eyes are not so good, the fine reticle may pose a problem. After you decide what magnification you want and how much you want to spend, a more accurate choice can be narrowed down. Keep in mind though, that for your perceived application, you should not worry too much about the BDC being right on. Though the TA33 is made for carbines, I think this would be a great choice. I have one mounted in the carry handle and I love it up there. It is light weight, has all the right features, good eye relief (important assuming you are wearing glasses) and reasonably priced. I prefer Amber over Red having had both. I DO NOT like the triangle reticle anymore after owning or shooting different reticle designs. The triangle does cover up too much target beyond the 100m (assuming you sighted the tip at 100). |

I have a TA31A for my 20" Colt A2 config and it's one of my favorite setups. It's simple and quick to get it on target. The plus for a triangle is it's easier to find and get it on your target but it does occupy more area than a standard crosshair or chevron. I've had the TA01, TA01NSN, TA31F,TA31A and a TA31 and the only one I kept was the TA31A. It was an expensive lesson on finding the one I wanted but the TA31A was the choice I like the best. Side note: The TA31 series was designed to be used on a 20" A2 configuration with a BDC for a 55gr bullet. |
