My first post:

This may have been discussed or posted on other websites, if so excuse the duplicate.

I just wanted to share "how to use Eotech reticle for range finding."
The image should explain how to do it.

Shit!!  It's a guy with a briefcase....light him up!!!

Just kidding.  Nice post, welcome to the forum.  I've seen and heard of the range finding before, but the graphic you posted should make it easy to understand.

Good info, but if you need to range find with a close combat optic, the shit has really hit the fan.

Just about the right height for:

"Hey Homey, is that my briefcase?"

So... what is one supposed to do if they are being shot at from 100 to 200 yards, or more?

"Sorry dude, I can't defend myself because I have this "close order optic".  I guess I will wait until you kill me or you run out of ammo and I can get close to you!"

No, it is more like you have learned to adapt to varying threats, in a dynamic battle field!  It isn't a choice of ONLY room to room... or ONLY desert warfare... or whatever AO one is deployed or ends up having to deal with in combat.

I guess the military is doomed to defeat using aimpoints and Eotechs, because they are ONLY prepared for close combat!

(I wonder if the image would not have been briefcase guy, but instead a zombie... if such a question would have come up!)

Actually a 50 yard zero will be within 1 " at 200 yds. After around 250 yards, start to hold the shoulder area for as torso hit.

I was going to say the same thing. 50 yd sight in and your fine to the distances shown in the pictures. Nice thought, but it would only be necessary out past 300 yds.

Wouldnt this also depend on how far your EOtech is from your eye?

Nope.  Part of the beauty of the EOTech holographic sight is that the reticle appears to be the same size no matter what the eye relief is.   It will take up more of the window the further the distance though.

I'm not sure the OP meant to imply you need to calc holdover, just how to determine what range your target is at in general. Shrug.

Excellent 1st post, OP.

I had been wondering about this myself but never got around to it.  Guess I can save myself the trouble now.

Okay, but tell me how to use the bottom of the outer circle to compensate as a BDC reticle. Now that's something more useful.

Tack, you are correct for point of impact, but the post was for ranging using the 65 MOA circle.  Two different subjects.  This is good info.

military studies have shown most combat is NOT out that far, hence no need for magnification.  CQC is exactly that......... close.

I don't think our military is "doomed" by the way..........

great post.....

M4,
I logged on just to ask that particular question about an Eotech.  Can the bottom of the outer ring be used as an aiming point or reference point for 400 + yards.  Such as harrassing fire on a group of hogs running across the oat field.  Clean kill is not a priority.

Bottom ring will be roughly a 785 yard zero (assuming a 100y zero on the dot using M193 from a carbine; or a 805yard zero if you're dot is set for 50yards.
