I have a fellow Officer with a Aimpoint on his Ar15, that has recently developed a problem.  The red dot now appears to be a small circle that basically looks like a spider web.  The circle is small with tiny cracks running out from the circle like a small web.  The aimpoint has never been dropped and upon close inspection there are no cracks in the lenses.....very frustrating to say the least.  The batteries have been replaced with new ones, and it's still the same.  Has anyone had anything like this before happen on an aimpoint?

I am guessing that you have a mild asthimatism...many people do including myself.  It makes the dot appear blury and grainy like a spider web.

The Aimpoint dot isn't really a dot anyway. It is actually a series of blocks that go in a circle...sort of like if you took an octagon and divided it up into 8 perfectly equal sections.  It starts about the 8 oclock and goes around in a clockwise pattern the more you turn it up...so functionally, the more you turn it up, the brighter and bigger the dot gets because the more of the octagon you are activating.

Hope that makes sense...

first thing i would do is clean the glass with alcohol or any camera lens cleaner.

I don't think so, because 4 different Officers have looked through the Aimpoint and we all see the spider web.  I used his Aimpoint about a year ago when he first got it and the spiderweb wasn't there.....weird.

If it is a newer Aimpoint, email Aimpoint the problem and they will get back to you on what it is and what to do.

Yeah, we sent off an email yesterday, but figured since it was a 3-day weekend, it'd be a while before hearing from them.
