I was looking at an Eotech at my local gunshop.  When I looked at the base, I saw the attach bolts don't seem to "cross through" the cutout in the weaver rail like a scope ring.  I am looking at the setup wrong or is that how they mount?  Secondly, how secure is this kind of mounting compared to the more traditional set up involved on Aimpoint scope?

There is a single bolt that runs though a notch in the rail, this bolt is also used to tighten the clamp that holds the eotech on.

The built in mount will work just fine.

Thumb screw if mounted directly to the upper. Allen screw if mounted on a larue or other quick release mount.

I have a LaRue mount and used tha Allen screw, mainly because it was what was already on the sight.
But after reading your response, I realize it's the logical thing to do with a quick release mount.
I unknowingly done good.
