| Hi, I bought a Trijicon scope to go with my Bushmaster ORC. The ORC comes with a couple of "risers" on the flat top, but I don't see any real need for them with my scope. Are there any benefits to using the risers, or is the scope typically simple adhered to the flat top? Thanks! |
The risers are for regular scopes, so you can use regular low or medium rings, and the risers add another 0.50" height so you can get a proper cheek weld on the stock. You need a ring height of between 1" and 1.25" to get the scope high enough. Lower than that and you have to mash your cheek into the stock to get a sight picture through the scope. |
I am aware of no ACOG you can co-witness with. I think it would be hard to see your irons through a 4x optic

Please excuse my ignorance, as this is my first flat top I've purchased. Co-witness refers to seeing your front AR sight through the optic, is that correct? The Bushmaster ORC comes with NO iron sights, so if that's what co-witness is referring to, I guess it's entirely irrelevant on this rifle. Since my ACOG is 3.5x, I was wondering what I could do for close range. Not to take the thread in a different direction, but does anyone have an opinion on using an ACOG as an OEG (Occluded Eye Gunsight)? I've seen a front cover sold by Progressive Machine and Tool, for instance (http://www.progressivemachine.net/), and wonder how well that would work for close range shooting. If it works well, then maybe I wouldn't have to even worry about purchasing backup iron sights. Thanks for any opinions. |
