what is the best way to set up a scope?
I put a level on the flat top receiver and then on the adjustment of knob of the scope is there a better way to set the rectile to be matched to the receiver?

I think the plumb bob method is a more accurate way to level a scope to a rifle.  Level the rifle with a bubble level and set up a plumb bob out on a tripod, say 50 yards away.  Move the scope until the vertical cross hair lines up perfectly with the string on the plumb bob.  Now your ready to sight her in and have some fun.

I have always just eyeballed it.

I got the new bubble setup from Midway.  Works perfectly.

+1, particularly since one may not mount a given weapon 100% plumb due to ergonomics.

I eyeball it as well, resting on a table, I match the vertical crosshair with the extended buttstock.  It gets me close enough; if I believe its canted after shooting a bit I adjust it slightly.

I just happen to have one of those Sears Digital levels laying around so I use that.  First I set my AR with the Bipod in the front and a sandbag in the rear.  It is good to have a bipod that swivels and you can lock it.

First, I level the AR length wise and then I level it regularly.  Then just mount the scope and tighten the screws a little bit, but you should still be able to move the scope.  Put the level on top of the elevation turret and carefully tighten the scope mount screws.  If you use a Larue SPR mount, it is easy as hell.
