I'd appreciate any opinions from you guys who are more experienced.

What I know:

1) I'm getting and EOTech 512 for my LE6920
2) I would like to co-witness in the lower 1/3rd with a BUIS.
3) I will keep my stock, fixed front sight

My options:

1) RRA Dominator mount. Allows lower 1/3 co-witness and has built-in fixed BUIS. Simple and cheap. Done.
2) I have a slight preference for a flip-up rear BUIS. But this involves buying a separtate riser mount (? LaRue) as well as a flip-up sight (? Troy). More costly and complicated.

My questions:

1) Any errors in my thinking so far?
2) Will I be happy with the Dominator?
3) If I get a riser mount AND a flip-up, will they still co-witness in the lower 1/3rd?
4) What flip-up would you recommend so that all that stuff (riser, EOTech and BUIS) fits on the flat top without requiring rail extensions?

I would recommend having a separate rear sight and eotech mount.  That way if the eotech goes down, or fogs up, etc, you can remove it with out removing the rear sight.

Seems to me all the flips would leave enough space.  A LMT fixed rear would be tight w/o riser.

No. Sounds good.

I do not own one, but most reviews I’ve seen are favorable. You’ll get basically the same sight picture as the combination of EOTech/CCH BUIS or LMT BUIS offers.

3) If I get a riser mount AND a flip-up, will they still co-witness in the lower 1/3rd?

Yes. The purpose of the risers is to achieve a lower 1/3rd co-witness.

I’m not sure about this one, but if you check my tacked “Optics Options” thread you might find a combination to your liking. You can then IM the owner to ask for specifics. Hope this offers some help.

Thanks for you input!

If I go with the flip-up route, any recommendations about specific brand/model?

I was just recently in the same boat.......shopping for a folding BUIS. My choices were down to the TROY and the new ARMS #40L-P.

I really like how robust the TROY is, but didn’t like the fact that it locked in the deployed position. The ARMS #40 series locks in the stowed position and folds when deployed if bumped or dropped, so I went with ARMS.

I have an eotech 512 using an accucam with a GG and G flip up rear, I can transistion to my BUIS in less than 2 seconds if need be, and I mean pulling the eotech off completely.

I use an Eotech with LaRue riser and a Troy flip-up!  I love this combination!

+1

Mazeman,

Troy only have one model rear BUIS but in two colors, black and flat dark earth (tan).

SKD Tac have a Troy special version that the windage adjustment cannot be hand adjustable, the detent pin have to be pushed by a punch or a bullet tip to rotate the windage knob.

The best feature I like about the Troy is that it locks in the up position and can't fold down accidentally when pushed by web gear or barricade, etc.

I've also got an eEotech 512 on my carbine. I'm going to add the Larue Eotech mount and the Larue B.U.I.S.

The YHM EOTech riser is only $35, that would save you a lot of dough if you don't need the throwlever release of the LaRue.

For the last few years, I've been running my Eotech 511's without a riser and I liked the cowitness.  However, I recently won a Larue mount in a local match and I've changed my ways.  The lower 1/3 cowitness is great and the raised optic fits my normal shooting stance a bit better.  BTW, I run an ARMS #40 BUIS...had it for years and haven't found a good excuse to replace it yet.

I'm also in the same postion, but I have the Eotech 553 and was thinking of mounting that directly to the rail with a the A.R.M.S. #40L-P.  How do you like the 40L-P so far?

The ARMS BUIS is fine!  No complaints.  I did however obtain a Troy recently and love that as well!

I was concerned using the 553, as it sits alittle higher than the older version.  I called Eotech and they recommend using the Dominator.  I still like the idea of using a popup BUIS.
