Hey there, I'm a newbie to the forum and had a question for the experts.  What height scope mounts would you recommend for a flat top upper mounting a 30mm scope tube with a 50mm objective?  Any brand recommendations?  Thanks in advance.

I have found that almost reguardless of what scope you use, as long at the scope is 3x zoom or more, it WILL NOT interfear with the front sight. Basicly any scope that zooms past 3x will have no problem seeing right through the front iron sight(it is invisable looking through the scope).

Now because you want to mount a large scope on an A3(flattop), you have several options.
1. use a riser(and elevated rail attchment). attach scope to riser and mount riser on the flattop.
2. buy a good set of elevated rings the mounting brackets are elongated to give more heigth. sometimes a see through modle might work.

ETA- Look up in the banner of site sponsored companies for a good deal. How much are you looking to spend$$$

Good advice - I might add that the lower you can keep your scope & do wat you want everything to do the better off you are

Thank you for the replies, price really isn't an issue so much as quality and funtionallity.  Do you think the scope I am looking to mount is too large for an AR  It's a 6.5X20 VX III.

This is a VariX III with sunshade and target turrets added.  The mount is the Armalite mount, which puts the scope at the same height as iron sights.  The forward offset allows the correct eye relief for "nose to the charging handle" cheek weld.

No, you cannot see the front sight base at all.

The Vari-X III 6.5x20 is the scope my photo above.  It is a 1" scope, and you can see the part number on the scope base.  I had the 4" sun shade and Stoney Point target turret knobs.  A nice setup for that rifle.

Larue mount is only way to go.
